ASHEBORO NC – After a homicide over the weekend in Asheboro, two people are in jail and authorities are searching for a body in a quarry in Moore county.
According to a press release by the Asheboro Police Department, on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at 2:13 AM, Asheboro Police Officers responded to 408 E. Salisbury Street for a subject who had been shot. Officers on scene learned that the crime scene was located at 612 Farr Street in Asheboro. Evidence located at the crime scene lead investigators to believe a violent crime had occurred at the location and began to treat the case as a homicide.
The victim has been identified as Dillion Zayne Wirt, a 23 year old white male from Asheboro.
Asheboro Police Chief Mark Lineberry says their investigation led to the former Glendon Pyrophyllite Rock Quarry located in Moore County. At this hour the Moore County Sheriff’s Office along with Lee County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in searching the area for the victim. The search will continue today for the victim’s body.
21 year-old Branson Raye Lambert from Asheboro has been charged with murder.
Also charged with accessory after the fact in this case is 36 year-old Jessica Lynn Loflin AKA Jessica Lynn Law, also from Asheboro. According to arrest warrants Law became an accessory after the fact because she is accused of knowing that Lambert murdered Wirt, and she assisted him by helping to remove the body from the house on Farr St and dumping it in another location.
The two suspects were arrested at a gas station in Virginia by Virginia State Police around 7 PM hours on Sunday, February 7th, 2021. The two are being held in the New River Valley Jail awaiting extradition.

UPDATE – 2/10/2021. – The body of Dillion Wirt the victim of last weekend’s homicide was recovered by divers from the Glendon Pyrophyllite Rock Quarry on Monday, February 8, 2021 at around 5 PM.
According to Chief Mark Lineberry with the Asheboro Police Department, an autopsy has been performed and found the victim was shot however the Medical Examiner’s documented official findings are not yet complete. Detectives from Asheboro traveled to Virginia and took possession of potential evidence including the vehicle the suspects were traveling in.
