Pedestrian Struck In Highway Accident

ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) – A woman was airlifted Friday evening in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle while trying to cross the highway. 

According to Asheboro Police Department On Friday, May 28, 2021, at 6:22 PM, first responders were dispatched to the area of I-73 near the Albemarle Rd overpass for an accident involving a pedestrian. When first responders arrived on the scene they found an unidentified female laying on the highway in a northbound lane of I-73 with serious injuries.  

An investigation was conducted by the Asheboro Police Department which found that the woman was a pedestrian who was trying to cross the travel lanes of Interstate 73 heading west. The pedestrian crossed into the path of a 2003 Honda Civic and was struck. The victim was transported to a local medical facility and was then airlifted to for additional treatment. 

Update May 29th 2021, 8 PM – In a press release the Asheboro Police Department has identified the female pedestrian as 26 year old Sydney Marie Byrd from Staley, NC. Ms. Byrd succumbed to her injuries and Asheboro Police will be investigating the incident as a fatal traffic crash.
