Accident scene on I-73/74 Southbound at Presnell St. (Scott Pelkey / North State Journal) ASHEBORO N.C. — A multi-vehicle accident has shut down I-73/74 southbound near the West Presnell Street exit. Just after 5 p.m. Randolph County 9-1-1 received multiple calls about several vehicles involved in a collision on I-73/74 near the Sunset Ave exit. Asheboro Fire and Rescue and Westside Fire Departments were dispatched and located two accident scenes. Two vehicles, including one overturned blocking both lanes of travel, were located on I-73/74 at the West Presnell Street exit. ASHEBORO N.C. – Today, Highway Patrol investigators are scheduled to confer with the District Attorney’s Office to review potential charges stemming from a vehicle accident involving a Ramseur officer. According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, at 9:25 p.m. on Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, Troopers responded to the report of a vehicle crash on US 64 at NC 49 in Ramseur. Investigators say 27-year-old Brandon Michael Schultheis was driving west on US 64 in a 2013 Dodge Charger police vehicle owned by the Town of Ramseur when he failed to stop at a traffic signal striking a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze. On February 14th, 2024, just before 6 p.m. Troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Old Liberty Rd, in front of the entrance to the parking lot for the Liberty Police Department. Photo from Westside Fire & Rescue via Facebook ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was seriously injured after several accidents, involving more than a dozen vehicles, resulted in I-73/74 south being temporarily shut down overnight.  According to a post by Westside Fire & Rescue on Facebook, at 5:44 p.m. on Monday, November 27th, 2023, emergency crews responded to assist Highway Patrol after debris fell off of a truck on Interstate 73/74 south, near Vision Drive.  When the first units arrived, they located a four-vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of I-73/74 at Spero Rd with only minor injuries.  That accident resulted in the southbound lanes being shut down.  Westside Fire & Rescue’s unit Rescue 13, which was also responding to the initial accident...

On Friday, July 28th, 2023, at around 7:30 pm, emergency crews were called to the scene of a vehicle collision where a pedestrian was struck on E Dixie Dr near Zaxby's. According to an accident report from the Asheboro Police Department, a 2005 Nissan SUV was traveling west on E Dixie Dr near Executive Way when a pedestrian stepped into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A driver who crashed head on into another vehicle while going the wrong way on I-73/74 near Randleman last weekend is facing several charges including DUI and child abuse. Shortly before midnight, Randolph County 911 had received a call from a driver who was taking the Randleman exit off I-73/74 onto West Academy St and reported they were nearly hit by a car that had entered the exit ramp going the wrong direction. Randolph County 911 notified both local police and deputies in the area as well as the highway patrol. FRANKLINVILE N.C. - A vehicle accident on Thursday evening on US Hwy 64 near Foxfire Rd claimed the life of one person with a second person being airlifted with life-threatening injuries. Just after 5 pm on Thursday, June 8th, 2023, emergency crews along with Randolph County EMS and Ash-Rand Rescue responded to the report of a crash that occurred on US 64 at Andrew Hunter Road in Randolph County.
