Dozens of Miles of Central NC Roads Set for Makeover

RALEIGH NC (NCDOT) – Nearly 70 miles of Central North Carolina roads will be resurfaced thanks to three contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The milling, resurfacing and shoulder grading projects are scheduled to be complete by the summer of 2022.

Two of the contracts cover nearly 55 miles of secondary roads in Chatham County and were awarded to Fred Smith Company with low bids of $2.3 million and $2.5 million.

The other contract, covering nearly 12 miles of roadway in Randolph County including three sections of U.S. 64, was also awarded to Fred Smith Company with a low bid of just over $2 million.

Drivers should watch out for lane closures where this work is taking place and be mindful of crews working near the roadway.
