Two Arrested For Sex Crimes Against Children

ASHEBORO NC – The Randolph County Sheriff’s office announced they have made two arrests in cases involving sex crimes against children.

On May 19, 2021, deputies received a report of a rape. Investigators assigned to the case were able to find enough evidence for the magistrate to find probable cause for charges against Michael Ray Roberts for two counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child. Roberts was arrested at his residence in Davidson County by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and was turned over to Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Detectives at the county line where he was transported the Randolph County jail on July 9, 2021. He was given a $20,000 secured bond and a court date of July 12, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.

Additionally on July 12th, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) says they received information from patrol deputy about Chad Lee Helms attempting to deliver inappropriate items to a juvenile. Detectives initiated an investigation which led to them presenting evidence to the magistrate who found probable cause to issue warrants for Helms’ arrest for ten counts of Felony Second Degree Exploitation of a Minor. Helms was taken into custody on July 12, 2021, by Randolph County Detectives and transported to the Randolph County jail. He is currently being held under a $20,000 secure bond and his first appearance was set for July 16, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.

This investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
