ASHEBORO NC – On Tuesday September 14th, just after Noon the Asheboro Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial fire at the Central Gymnasium in Asheboro. When they arrived the saw smoke coming from the building but according to Capt Joines with the Asheboro Fire Dept instead of fire they found vandalism.
According to Asst Chief Brown with the Asheboro Police Dept evidence and witnesses pointed to several juveniles breaking out the panel at the front of the gym and setting off two fire extinguishers inside the gym. A CSI detective responded to the scene and collected the extinguishers so they could be processed. Asst Chief Brown says the case has been assigned to a detective.
No information about the cost of the damage was available, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Asheboro Police Dept or Crime Stoppers.
