ASHEBORO N.C. —A man wanted by the state of New York couldn’t seem to remember his name when asked by police or the judge. Now he’s in jail facing awaiting extradition.
On December 13, 2021, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled over a vehicle on US Highway 64 East in Ramseur. The driver gave police a fake name before being identified as Daniel Darnell Hunter. Deputies called officers with Ramseur Police Department to assist and when they searched the car police say they found marijuana and US currency. The subject was transported to the Randolph County Jail. There the suspects name of Daniel Darnell Hunter was linked to an alias of Julian Giavanni Johnson. The suspect was booked on Felony Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, and Fictitious Info to Officer and was given a $10,000.00 secured bond.
Sometime on the morning of December 13th, 2021, the staff at the Randolph County Jail located a bank card bearing the name Travis Edward Harrington in the possession of the suspect they whom they thought was Julian Giavanni Johnson. Police were finally able to identify the suspect through SBI using his fingerprints as Travis Harrington.
When Harrington was taken before a Judge later that day for his first appearance the judge changed the bond from $10,000 to $100,000 due the Harrington using multiple names of other people, one of which coincidentally had an outstanding warrant. A warrant from Iredell County for Julian Giavanni Johnson was recalled after police determined that the suspect was using the name as an additional alias.
Why all the lies about his name? Police found out that Harrington was wanted with full extradition out of the state of New York. On September 21st, 2021, a NY Supreme Court Justice issued a Bench Warrant on Travis Edward Harrington for Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree, Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Assault in the Second Degree as Sexually Motivated Felony, Assault in the Third Degree and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. After verifying the New York extradition, a Fugitive Warrant was issued by the magistrate and served on Harrington on December 15, 2021. The magistrate set a $150,000 secured bond and scheduled an extradition hearing for December 17, 2021, Randolph County District Court.
