NWS Calls For Strong Thunderstorms Starting This Evening

ASHEBORO N.C. – The National Weather Service in Raleigh is warning of the risk of isolated severe thunderstorms are possible late with damaging winds starting this evening.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook posted this morning warns of strong to potentially isolated severe thunderstorms starting tonight and continuing through Thursday morning. The main threat is damaging wind. The primary threat from these storms is damaging winds with wind gusts tonight reaching between 20 and 25mph.

TonightA chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 63. South wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
ThursdayShowers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8am and 2pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
