Pedestrian Struck and Killed on I-73 Identified by SHP

ASHEBORO N.C. – A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and died on scene on I-73 last Friday has been identified by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

At 9:36 p.m. on Friday, November 18 th , 2022, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-73 southbound near Pineview Road in Randolph County.

Nestor Aroldo Oliveros Ramos, 41, of Lexington, N.C., was traveling as a pedestrian west across I-73 when he was struck by an SUV traveling south. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian and Ramos died on scene. Investigators believe that Ramos was under the influence of alcohol when he was struck.

Both southbound lanes of I-73 near Pineview Road were closed for nearly three (3) hours during the investigation.

Troopers cleared the scene at 12:07 a.m.
