Driver Taken to Hospital After Crashing into Side of Verizon Store

ASHEBORO N.C. – The driver of a grey SUV was taken to the hospital this evening after crashing into the side of the Verizon store in Asheboro.

Just before 7pm on April 10th, 2023, Randolph County 911 dispatched emergency crews to 1304 E Dixie Dr, in Asheboro, for a report of a vehicle crash. Callers reported a vehicle had gone down an embankment and crashed into the side of the Verizon store on E Dixie Dr.

Asheboro Fire and Police, Westside Fire, Eastside Fire, Franklinville Fire, Ash-Rand Rescue, and Randolph County EMS all responded to the scene. Rescue crews had to secure the vehicle in place before they were able to extricate the driver, who was transported to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Witnesses on scene said the driver was at Hugo’s Car Wash when they saw the vehicle accelerate, jump over two curbs, before crashing into the side of the Verizon store located next door. Employees at Verizon say the store was open at the time and heard the crash, but no one in the store was injured.

No word on the condition of the driver is available as of the time of publication. We will update this article as more information is made available.

UPDATE 4/10/23 11PM – Randolph County Emergency Services has been able to confirm that the driver’s injuries were classified as serious, but not life-threatening.
