Vehicle Accident Closes Gold Hill Rd [UPDATED]

ASHEBORO N.C. – A severe vehicle accident has closed a stretch of Gold Hill Road in Asheboro.

According to N.C. DOT, Gold Hill Road is closed between Randolph Tabernacle Road and East Presnell Street and may remain closed until 5 PM.

Emergency crews are on the scene of a serious vehicle accident reportedly involving a single vehicle.

As this is still an active incident no further information is available currently. We have reached out to officials and will provide an update as more information is made available.

UPDATE 7/5/23 5:15PM – East Side Fire Department has provided more details in a post on Facebook about the vehicle crash that closed a portion of Gold Hill Rd earlier today.

East Side Fire Department says they responded to a vehicle crash in the 900 block of Gold Hill Rd. First responders found a single vehicle off the roadway, overturned, against a tree.

With the assistance of Ash-Rand Rescue and Randolph County EMS, crews made access and determined “the driver was entrapped and deceased.”

Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to investigate the accident. The results of that investigation are expected to be released soon.

East Side Fire Department expressed its condolences to the family of the victim who remains unnamed at this time.

UPDATE 7/5/23 6PM – The North Carolina Highway Patrol has released information following their investigation of a fatal accident on Gold Hill Road.

According to a press release from the Troop D Public Information Office, at 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on Gold Hill Road near Randolph Tabernacle Road in Randolph County.

Tarek Ahmed Mohamed Asar, 36, of Asheboro, N.C., was traveling northeast on Gold Hill Road, operating a 2006 Kia passenger car. Asar traveled off the roadway to the right, struck a ditch, overcorrected, and then reentered the roadway. Asar traveled left of center, off the roadway to the left, struck a tree and overturned.

Asar died on-scene.

Investigators are uncertain as to why Asar lost control of his vehicle. Troopers cleared the scene at 2:41 p.m.
