ASHEBORO N.C. – Wheatmore Middle School was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after the school discovered a potential threat to the safety of the school written on the wall of a bathroom.
On February 1st, 2023, at 2 PM, Wheatmore Middle School’s principal, Dr. Bruce Carrol sent out a phone message to parents saying that the school had to be evacuated due to a threat to the safety of the school. That message said in full:
“Good afternoon, Wheatmore Middle School parents, this is Principal Bruce Carroll. I am calling to inform you that a potential threat to the safety of the school was discovered today in relation to a statement written on a bathroom wall on the school’s campus. As a result of the discovery of the potential threat, all students and staff were evacuated from the building at approximately 1:00 p.m. After determination by members of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and the school’s administration that there was no safety concern, the school day resumed at approximately 1:45 p.m. Please know that the school’s administration will continue to work with law enforcement to maintain a safe environment on the school’s campus. At this time, we have no reason to believe that our students or staff are in danger. Thank you and have a good day.”

According to a report from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:10 PM on February 1st, 2023, multiple deputies responded to the school to investigate a bomb threat. Police on scene determined the threat to be a false alarm.
