ASHEBORO N.C. – An officer with the Asheboro Police Department who was called to check on two people slumped over in a car at a McDonald’s walked up to an oblivious driver to catch her red handed preparing to use drugs.
On February 22nd, 2023, just before 6:30 pm, an officer with the Asheboro Police Department was called to the McDonald’s at 1436 N Fayetteville St for a report of a male and female slumped over in a vehicle in the parking lot.
The officer arrived and approached the vehicle. In a report the officer noted he saw a male in the passenger seat slumped over. At the driver’s side window, the officer said he was able to see into the lap of the female driver which contained a purple spoon with a white powdery substance. The female driver was holding a hypodermic needle in her right hand and bringing it in close to the spoon.
The officer knocked on the window and when the female driver looked up the officer stated she began repeatedly saying “oh my God” while placing the needle in the center console and pushing the spoon into the floorboard.
Both suspects were ordered out of the vehicle and the female driver who police identified as Ann Strickland was detained.
Strickland told police the white powder was heroin. A search of the vehicle found the spoon, the loaded hypodermic needle from the center console, bloody swabs, drug paraphernalia, as well as upwards of seventy hypodermic needles, according to the report.
Strickland was taken to the Randolph County Jail where before a magistrate she was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia and given a $1,000 bond.
The male passanger was not charged and was released.
