As the weather gets warmer and days get longer, events are returning! This month is full of festivals, concerts, movies, hikes and more. Here is our list of events happening across Randolph County in May.

Music & Market
May 5 – 5pm – 10pm | Commerce Square Park | FREE
Fresh produce, plants, food trucks, and live music. The first concert scheduled for May 5 features Red Dirt Revival. Food Trucks arrive at 5pm, the event runs through 10pm.
Friday Night Bluegrass presents “True Grass”
May 19 @ 7:00 PM | Sunset Theater | $8 Advanced / $10 at door
Asheboro Cultural and Recreation Services presents Friday Night Bluegrass to the historic Sunset Theatre with the return of local favorites True Grass on Friday, May 19th . The concert begins at 7:00 pm.
Trinity High School Thespians Presents “Guys and Dolls”
Trinity High School Thespians will present the Tony Award-Winning musical, “Guys and Dolls,” on Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20, at 7:00 p.m., and again on Sunday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Friday nights heat up in Downtown Asheboro with the concert series – Friday Rock’n the Park. The opening band 1964 The Tribute will take the stage from 6 – 7:30 pm
Asheboro Summer Concert Series
May 21 @ 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM | Bicentennial Park | FREE
Enjoy a family-friendly outdoor concert in the heart of Downtown Asheboro at Bicentennial Park. Opening night will feature The Castaways.
Liberty Showcase Theater Presents – BRYAN WHITE
May 13 @ 7:00 PM | Liberty Showcase Theater | $25+
Bryan White is a CMA, ACM, and Grammy award-winning country music artist, producer, and songwriter. Throughout his prolific recording career, he’s charted twenty-one singles, of which six were number 1. His hits include “So Much for Pretending,” “Sittin’ On Go,” and “From This Moment On” which he recorded with Shania Twain for her “Come On Over” album which is the biggest selling female album of all time.
???? Asheboro Mariachi Festival
Friday, May 5th, 2023 | Sunset Theater | $25+
Friday, May 5th kicks off the Mariachi Festival in Sunset Theatre with Latin GRAMMY-Winning female group Flor de Toloache at 7:00 PM. Flor de Toloache make New York City history as its’ first and only all-women Mariachi group. Flor de Toloache’s members hail from diverse cultural backgrounds that define their unique flavor and sound.
Tickets for this performance are $35 for Orchestra seating or $25 for Balcony seating. Tickets are available online at SunsetTheatre.eventbrite.com or in person at the Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services office located across the street from the Theatre at 241 Sunset Avenue.

Saturday, May 6th 12PM-5PM | Bicentennial Park | FREE
The Mariachi Fest will continue Saturday, May 6th from 12 PM – 5 PM in Bicentennial Park.
This free event in the park will have performances from Mariachi Viva Mexico from Raleigh, Mariachi Mexico 2000 from Greensboro, and Ballet Folkloric Guadalupano from Asheboro. There will be food trucks, taco eating contest, and more!

Quiet Day at the NC Zoo
May 30 @ 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM | NC Zoo | Admission Required*
On Quiet Days at the Zoo, we offer a more sensory-friendly experience and invite everyone looking to visit the Zoo on a less crowded day. We will not allow reservations for large groups or field trips on these Quiet Days. We will also turn off all loud music and messaging at our entrances and throughout the Zoo.
Sensory bags are free for check out from the Guest Services Office or at Kidzone, and designated quiet areas are available and marked throughout the Zoo. Quiet sensory play experiences will also be open 10 am – 2 pm in our Kidzone on these days.

Randolph County Law Enforcement Torch Run

Area law enforcement agencies in Randolph County are raising awareness for the North Carolina Special Olympics and their amazing athletes. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to participate with other law enforcement agencies in Randolph County in the local Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) on May 3rd at noon in downtown Asheboro.
Blessing of the Badges

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office will be observing National Police Week May 14-20, 2023, and Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 th . We will be hosting the fifth annual “Blessing of the Badges” on May 15, 2023. Everyone is welcome to attend as we pray for and honor every law enforcement officer in Randolph County for their dedication in protecting and serving our community. The brief service will be held on the Sheriff’s Office lawn at noon.

Randolph County Law Enforcement Torch Run
May 3 @ 12:00 PM | Downtown Asheboro | FREE
The Community Based Programs Division is rounding out the year with an end of school year food drive to assist area food banks in restocking prior to summer. You can drop off items at either Sheriff’s Office location, call the number provided for pick up or pick a local food bank of your choice and drop off items. Summer is one of the hardest times to keep shelves full, when kids are home for the summer.
Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
May 13 – All Day
Help end hunger by participating in the ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive without ever having to leave home. Organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is the largest one-day food drive in the country. On Saturday, May 13, 2023, the public is asked to leave bags of non-perishable food by their mailboxes for local Letter Carriers to collect. You can also drop off food at your local post office.
