ASHEBORO N.C. – A domestic situation that resulted in a stand-off with Asheboro Police ended peacefully with the child involved un-injured and one suspect arrested.
On the February 9th 2024, at around 9:30 a.m. officers from the Asheboro Police Department were dispatched to 611 East Central Avenue, Apartment C, in reference to a reported assault.
According to a press release, officers spoke with the victim who advised she was assaulted by her boyfriend, identified by police as Matthew Thomas Watts. The victim told officers Watts was inside the residence with their 4-month-old child.
When officers made contact with Watts he refused to exit the apartment. That lead to an approximately four hours standoff with police.
Negotiators along with assistance from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded and spoke with Watts, but he refused to exit the apartment. When police confirmed the child was upstairs and Watts was downstairs officers forced entry into the apartment, and Watts was taken into custody without incident.
The child was secured, uninjured, and returned to the mother.
Watts was charged with Assault on a female, Resist/ Delay/ Obstruct a Law Enforcement Officer, and Interfering with 911 Communications. He was placed in the Randolph County Jail and denied bond.
