Local Man Arrested After Threatening Police in Social Media Video

ASHEBORO N.C. —  A local man was arrested last week after threating police in a live video posted to social media led to an investigation.

On March 26th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assault in progress on U.S. Hwy 64 East in Ramseur.

According to a press release, deputies encountered Dominick Lynn Sloan, who threatened to harm law enforcement with a weapon as they were returning to their vehicles, while livestreaming on social media.

Investigators were also able to obtain a search warrant for the property due to a protective order issued earlier in March which prevented Sloan from possessing firearms and ammunition.

After completing the investigation and leaving the scene, deputies obtained a copy of that social media video posted by Sloan and were able to use it as evidence to obtain a warrant for misdemeanor communicating threats.

On March 29th, deputies executed the search warrant at the residence. According to the press release, upon Sloan’s arrival at the residence, he initially refused to comply with the instructions given but was soon taken into custody on the warrant for arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office says the search located ammunition to firearms, a violation of the protective order.

Sloan was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for felony domestic violence protective order violation and misdemeanor resisting public officer. He was also served the outstanding warrant for arrest for misdemeanor communicating threats and issued a 48-hour domestic hold.

A first appearance was set for April 1, 2024, in Randolph County District Court. Following the 48-hour hold, the magistrate set a $20,000 secured bond due to the evidence presented regarding the threats.
