Manhunt Underway After Vehicle Accident / Shooting on I-74 [UPDATED]

RANDLEMAN NC (ACME NEWS) – One person was transported from the scene of a single vehicle accident with a gunshot wound on I-74 near Cedar Square Rd, and police are still in the area looking for two suspects that fled the scene. At this hour, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriffs officer are conducting an manhunt in the area of I-74, Cedar Square Rd, and Banner Whitehead Rd. No further information is available at this time but we will post updates as they become available.

UPDATE (9/29/21 – 6PM) – This evening we are finally learning more about the accident and shooting that took place in I-74 near Cedar Square Rd back on July 31st, 2021. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office their deputies were responding to a single vehicle accident, but while enroute 911 advised them that a child at the scene of the accident had possibly been injured by gun fire. When deputies arrived they located two vehicles, one on the westbound side of I74 and the other in the median on the east bound side.

Police say they discovered that the occupant(s) of one vehicles had fired several shots at the other vehicle just prior to the accident. An infant passenger was transported by EMS to an area hospital with a possible gunshot wound to the leg. Another male passenger was transported with injuries presumed to be from the crash.

Learning that two subjects from the vehicle that had fired the shots had fled the scene on foot. a man hunt began. Deputies on scene calling in K9 teams from the Sheriffs office as well as High Point Police Dept. They also received air support from the NC State Highway Patrol After several hours police were unable to locate the suspects. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office responded to investigation of the shooting.

On September 15th, Detectives obtained warrants for Jakeith Sabreyonn Hargrove of High Point for four counts of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflicting Serious Injury and four counts of Felony Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Dwelling/Moving Vehicle.

On September 23rd, 2021, Hargrove was located, arrested and served the warrants by United States Marshals Office’s Violent Fugitive Task Force and subsequently remanded to the custody of the Forsyth County Jail. He was given a $1,000,000 secured bond and later transferred to Randolph County Jail. He had a first appearance in Randolph County District Court on September 27, 2021.
