NC Zoo Asks Public to Vote on Names of Sand Cat Triplets

(NC ZOO) - The North Carolina Zoo is asking the public to vote on the “purr-fect” names for the sand cat kitten triplets born on May 11, 2023.  The triplets are two females and one male. People can vote on this online poll from among names chosen by zookeepers. Voting is open now and closes Wednesday, July 5, at 4 p.m. (all EDT). The public can also access the poll through the Zoo's website at nczoo.org. There is no charge to select names. The winning names will be announced on Friday, July 7. ASHEBORO N.C. - Monday morning police responded to several break-ins of vehicles at a north Asheboro apartment complex including a stolen vehicle which led to a vehicle pursuit into Greensboro. If all that sounds familiar it's because the same thing happened late last year at and near the same apartment complex. Early Monday morning, just before 3am, officers with the Asheboro Police Department say they were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle at Mathew Grande Apartments, on N. Fayetteville Street in Asheboro. ASHEBORO N.C. - Forecasters are calling for severe weather including the threat of severe thunderstorms, hail, and an isolated tornado all possible across central North Carolina, including Randolph County, Monday evening. Monday will start off nice with partly to mostly sunny skies and a high reaching near 90 degrees, but an approaching cold front is expected to arrive sometime around 3pm in the afternoon. That cold front brings a serious threat of severe storms across western Piedmont Monday afternoon and into the evening as it develops into a line or large cluster of severe thunderstorms that will move eastward across the area. On June 24, 2023, at 11:23 PM, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a report of gunshots fired in the 800 block of Salem Court. Randolph County 911 advised responding officers that multiple people had been shot. Three victims were found at the scene and transported by EMS to a local medical facility. An additional victim arrived at the facility after being transported by personal vehicle. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police are looking for a wanted suspect who allegedly stole internet and telephone lines then fled from police earlier this week on Zoo Parkway. On June 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Zoo Parkway, in Asheboro, after being notified of a suspicious vehicle in the area. According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies located the vehicle on the right shoulder of Zoo Parkway with a male subject standing near the front passenger side of the vehicle and a female in the passenger seat. RANDLEMAN N.C. - Two people were arrested earlier this week on felony drug charges following a search warrant at a Randleman home. On June 21st, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Division concluded an investigation related to the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. Detectives, assisted by the Criminal Interdiction Team and Randleman Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence located on Worthville St. in Randleman. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, during the search, Detectives located and seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, items of drug paraphernalia and US Currency. (NCnfs) — The U.S. Forest Service is proposing to change recreation fees at two sites on the Uwharrie National Forest and the public is invited to provide input to proposed fee changes for 60 days beginning on June 23rd, 2023 and ending on August 22nd, 2023. The goal of these changes is to improve visitor experiences through site upgrades paid for by the collected fees.  These fee changes are only proposed. After public comment is received, the Forest will assess the comments and concerns and then present the fee proposals to the Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee (RRAC) at a future date. SEAGROVE N.C. - One person has been arrested in connection with the burglary of a business in Seagrove. On June 15, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in the Seagrove area where a business had been entered and property was taken. According to the Sheriff's Office, Detectives arrived on scene and were able to locate evidence, which led them to a residence on Borough Ave, in Seagrove. With the assistance of the Seagrove Police Department, Detectives approached the residence and spoke with the occupants which led to a search. That search found evidence of the burglary as well as the stolen property from the business.
