Credit - Happy Hills Animal Foundation ASHEBORO N.C. - Just over a year ago, the Happy Hills Animal Foundation rescued a group of eight poodles from what they called "a backyard breeding situation that had gone horribly wrong." Today, all eight poodles have new homes, and the criminal case is wrapping up. In March of 2022, Animal Control officers were called out for several dogs running loose around a neighborhood in Sophia. The owner of the property, identified by the Sheriff's Office as Michael Alan Meier, was issued an animal cruelty notice by Randolph County Animal Services. Stabbing at Dunham’s in Asheboro Sends One to Hospital

[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - One person was taken to the hospital after a reported stabbing at the Randolph Mall Tuesday evening. On April 25th, 2023, at around 6:15 pm, police were called to the Dunham's Sports store at the Randolph Mall for a report of a stabbing. According to Robbie Brown, Assistant Chief of Police with the Asheboro Police Department, the victim reported he was assaulted by several black males while in the business. The victim was transported to a local medical facility for treatment, no update on their condition is available at this time and no information about the individuals involved can be released due to their age. Brown says the case has been assigned to a detective in Criminal Investigations Division.

ASHEBORO N.C. - One person is in jail after Asheboro Police were called to a report of a shooting in an Asheboro neighborhood late Monday night. On April 24th, 2023, at around 10:30 pm, officers responded to a home on Chestnut St for a report of gun shots being heard in the area. While officers were responding Randolph County 911 reported they were taking a call for a possible gunshot wound from the same incident. When officers arrived on scene, they saw a suspect walking next to the roadway holding a handgun in their right-hand walking away from the scene of the shooting. That suspect was identified as Michael Flores in a police report. Police held Flores at gunpoint and ordered him to drop the firearm. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man from Lexington is facing multiple charges after the Sheriff's Office says he held a woman against her will overnight in his vehicle. On April 21st, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Meadow Ct., in Trinity, for a report of an assualt. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the victim reported that Roy Lee Evans, of Lexington, had held her against her will inside his vehicle throughout the night and assaulted her. Evans reportedly released her around 7:00 am and was told to leave. She was discovered by other people in the residence when they awoke and called 911. ASHEBORO N.C. - Thunderstorms have battered Randolph County all morning bringing down trees resulting in a few power outages and the threat will continue into this afternoon. This morning at 8:49 am the National Weather Service in Raleigh issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of northwest Randolph County. ASHEBORO N.C. - Deputies located a man with multiple warrants sleeping in a barn in Randleman earlier this week. On April 16, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Stanton Farm Rd. and Hockett Dairy Rd., in Randleman, to locate wanted subject, Steven Lamar Hughes, Jr. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, Hughes was located sleeping in the loft of a barn and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served with three orders for arrest out of Davidson County and received a $7,500 secured bond. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two people were taken to the hospital overnight after crashing into another car while thier vehicle was being shot at according to police. At around 10:45 pm on April 16th, 2023, officers were called to Coleridge Rd in Asheboro for a report of gunshots fired in the area. While officers were enroute they were advised that multiple shots had been fired at a vehicle which led to it crashing into another vehicle. 911 operators advised one of the callers said they had been shot and were still in the vehicle, according to a police report. ASHEBORO N.C. - Starting today, April 17th, 2023, the KRAX Weather Radar operated by NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, NC, will be unavailable for approximately two weeks for a critical upgrade. The radar is going offline for planned maintenance as technicians refurbish and replace the pedestal, a critical component necessary for antenna rotation and positioning. "The components are extremely heavy and will require the radome to be removed by crane and replaced when the work is completed," said the NWS office in a press release. "The radar and pedestal were designed to last 25 years, and these components have exceeded their projected life span." The City of Randleman dedicated the park to the Petty Family “in honor of their service to community organizations, philanthropy through the Petty Family Foundation, leadership on the school and tourism boards and more,” according to a statement.
