This will put Ian on course to move into NC late today, with tropical storm force wind gusts across much of central NC today into tonight. Tropical Storm force winds will be a threat to the local area with gusts of 39 to 57 mph possible.Randolph County Schools and Asheboro City Schools will be closed Friday 9/30. ASHEBORO, N.C. (RAMSEUR FD) – The Randolph County Association of Fire Chiefs is kicking off the 2022 Fire Prevention Week by hosting an annual Firefighter Day on October 8th , 2022. The event will be held in the Randolph County Courthouse parking lot at 176 East Salisbury Street in Asheboro from 9am – 4pm. The majority of fire departments that serve Randolph County, along with Ash-Rand Rescue Squad and EMS will be present with informational displays, apparatus and personnel. North Carolina Forest Service, Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will also be in attendance. Fire prevention materials and three hundred smoke alarms will be given away to attendees. Credit - East Side Fire Department (Facebook) ASHEBORO N.C. - A large area of Asheboro is without power at the moment due to a tree taking down primary power lines on Hwy 42. In a post on Facebook the East Side Fire Department is reporting they are on the scene around the 500 block of Highway 42 S where a large tree has fallen and taken down primary power lines. The outage includes Highway 42, Eastwood Dr., Briarcliff Dr., and has also impacted the stop lights at Highway 42 and E. Dixie Dr. Use caution in the area. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Ramseur Police Department say they have charged a Randleman man with first degree murder after a child died from suspected abuse. On Aug 31st, 2021, Investigators with the Ramseur Police Department received a call from the Randolph Health Emergency Department about a 14-month-old child that had sustained serious injuries related to suspected child abuse. That child was being transferred to Brenner's Children's Hospital's Pediatric ICU. Despite undergoing surgery on Sept 5th, 2022, the child succumbed to its injuries. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police arrested a man last night after they we called to a local motel for a stabbing. On September 21st, 2022, just after 7:30 pm, the Asheboro Police Department were called to 827 Albemarle Road in reference to a stabbing.  According to officials with the police department, when officers arrived, they spoke with the victim who reported he had been assaulted. The officer noted wounds to the victim's head however they refused to be transported by EMS. Police say through their investigation officers were able to charge Kenneth Antonio Collins, a 27-year-old male from Aberdeen, with one count of assault inflicting serious bodily injury. Mr. Collins was also served with three separate warrants for failure to appear and is currently confined at the Randolph County Ja...

On September 13, 2022, at approximately 4:21 am, Randolph County 911 operators began receiving calls reporting burglaries of vehicles in the Sophia, Archdale, and Trinity areas. That morning deputies responded to thirty seperate addresses by 9 am and reported fifty vehicles had been entered. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man who was already on house arrest for felony larceny charges was arrested last week after deputies say they stopped him on a stolen excavator which he was operating under the influence. On September 14, 2022, at approximately 3:00 am, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy on US Hwy 220 S near Seagrove conducted a traffic stop on a Kubota excavator traveling north bound from the Seagrove area. The male driver, whom the Sheriff's Office identified as Tony Eugene Hiatt, was not provide information that he owned the excavator and according to a press release he appeared to be under the influence. Photo provided by NC Zoo ASHEBORO, N.C. (NC ZOO) - Olivia, a southern white rhinoceros who has lived at the North Carolina Zoo for more than 30 years, passed away on September 15. Olivia, 54, had lived at the North Carolina Zoo since 1987 and arrived as a breeding pair with male rhino Stan, although no offspring were born. In later years, Olivia and Stan lived together at the Zoo’s spacious rhino annex (off view from the public) in retirement for several years until Stan died in 2019.  Since then, Olivia was reintroduced to the other animals on the Zoo’s 40-acre Watani Grasslands and took on the role of “Great Auntie” to the younger rhinos. Anyone interested in learning more about a career with Randolph County Sheriff's Office is invited to attend one of four information sessions with recruiters and detention staff. Events will be on September 15th, October 6th, October 27th, and November 10th from 6pm to 8pm at the Randolph County Sheriff's Office main office on McDowell Rd in Asheboro. ASHEBORO N.C. - A fatal head-on crash on Finch Farm Road in Trinity last night claimed the life of an 18-year-old and sent three others to the hospital with serious injuries. At 9:10 p.m. on Monday, August 29th, 2022, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on Finch Farm Road near Saddle Club Drive in Randolph County. According to a press release from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Emily Jane McAllister of Trinity, was traveling north on Finch Farm Road in a 2004 Acura TSX when she traveled left of center and struck a Ford Escape traveling in the opposite direction head-on.
