ASHEBORO N.C. - A man from Bunnlevel is facing multiple felony charges after being charged with stealing 1,000 gallons of gasoline from a local gas station. On July 9, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Handy Hugo gas station on Hwy 64 East in Asheboro in reference to a possible larceny/theft of fuel in progress. According to a press release, when deputies arrived, they noticed a white Chevrolet truck with a work bed sitting in theparking lot of the gas station over the underground fuel tanks. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office is asking for help identifying a suspect involved in a robbery of the Coleridge Dollar General earlier this week. On August 14, 2022, at approximately 9:15 pm, an armed robbery occurred at the Dollar Generallocated at 4448 NC HWY 22 S., in Ramseur which is located in the Coleridge area. Surveillance video shows a male enter the business at approximately 9:15 pm wearing black pants, tan in color boots, black jacket with white lettering near the left side, a black face mask, and blue in color hood. RALEIGH N.C. (NCDOT)– The N.C. Department of Transportation is reminding people to stay off railroad tracks after multiple incidents involving a train and either a vehicle or pedestrian. Already this year there have been 51 incidents with vehicles and pedestrians on railroad tracks in North Carolina; 10 people have died. “That’s why we’re always reminding people to be very careful around railroad tracks,” said Jason Orthner, director for NCDOT’s Rail Division. “Railroads are only meant for trains. Drivers should obey traffic laws and never stop on the tracks. Also, people should never walk, jog or take pictures on railroad tracks. According to a police report from the Asheboro Police Department on Aug 9th 2022, just after 2am in the morning, an officer attempted to pull over on S Fayetteville St near Lanier Ave. Police say that vehicle was reported stolen and linked to an attempted vehicle left. A brief chase through the back streets of Asheboro occurred and when the vehicle was stopped officers found two juveniles in the car. Reilly was the oldest male lion in an Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)-accredited institution. "He was so tolerant of his rambunctious offspring and was fiercely devoted to his lady lion, Mekita," said Zookeeper Beth Malott, who worked with Reilly for eight years. "Reilly was a one-of-a-kind soul, and his morning roars will be greatly missed." Reilly had been battling renal disease for several years, and with his advanced age and weakened physical state, the animal care team and veterinarians made the heart-wrenching, quality-of-life decision to euthanize him. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police are working to understand what led to a shooting last night in Asheboro that left a local man shot in the foot. On August 5th, 2022, at approximately 2am, patrol officers with the Asheboro Police Department were dispatched to a mobile home on Walnut Street, in reference to a gunshot wound. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department this morning, when officers arrived and entered the residence they located one white male victim, identified as Randal Clay Allred, with a gunshot wound to his right foot. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly tried to set a house on fire in Franklinville. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on July 31, 2022, deputies responded with the Franklinville Fire Department to a report of a house fire on W. Main St. in Franklinville. The Sheriff's Office says their deputies received information that a Hispanic male subject in a red shirt, approached the residence with a gas can, and set the residence on fire. They were able to identify that male as Evelio Pinales, who was later located and arrested at his residence. Pinales was charged with one count of felony second degree arson. ASHEBORO N.C. - Earlier this week officers with the Asheboro Police Department responding to a call about an armed person ended up chasing a juvenile who was reported missing who was carrying a gun. On July 24th 2022, officer were dispatched to Martin Luther King Jr Dr in Asheboro after 911 received a call about an armed juvenile suspect in the area. When officers arrived they located a male juvenile suspect, who due to their age remains unnamed, in front of Harrison St. According to a police report, when the responding officer saw the suspect they were aware they had been reported missing.
