ASHEBORO N.C. - The Sheriff's Office says a local homeowner called to report a burglary after he arrived home to find a man wearing only a blanket trying to steal their ATV. On July 25th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Driftwood Dr., in Archdale, after receiving a call about a burglary in progress. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, when the victim returned home along with finding his dogs had been let out and his ATV was missing from his carport, he also noticed a man in the woods without any clothing on. ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver who sped past a police officer last weekend was arrested after being pulled over for speeding once officers realized the driver was intoxicated, with drugs and a gun in the car. On Saturday July 23rd 2022, a patrol officer with the Asheboro Police Department was about to turn onto North Fayetteville Street when they saw a dark in color passenger car drive past them at a high rate of speed. According to a police report, once the officer caught up to the vehicle they matched their speed with the suspect vehicle they estimated the suspect vehicle to be traveling at 86 mph, almost double the posted speed limit of 45mph. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man has been arrested on and charged with multiple felony assault charges after the Sheriff's office says they were called to a stabbing last Friday in Franklinville. On July 23, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the area of Rockie River Street and US Hwy 64 E, in Franklinville, responding to a 9-1-1 caller stating that someone had been assaulted. Once deputies, Randolph County EMS and Franklinville Fire Department arrived on scene, it was determined that the victim was suffering from numerous injuries, including a stab wound. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man has been charged with multiple felonies after a search warrant of his home turned up enough drugs for police to seek trafficking charges. On June 9th, 2022, the Asheboro Police Departments' VICE/ Narcotics unit executed a search warrant at a home on Finchley Ct, located off Gold Hill Rd in Asheboro. According to a report from the department officers located and seized around 35 grams of Fentanyl and approximately 4.5 grams of cocaine and marijuana, along with cash, scales, baggies, and other paraphernalia. Maurice Gerald Lewis has been charged with trafficking-opium, possession with intent, maintain dwelling for controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Police Investigating Shooting Earlier This Month That Left One Dead

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was killed in a shooting in Asheboro earlier this month and now police are asking for information from the public. According to information from Robbie Brown Asst Chief and of the Asheboro Police Department just before midnight on July 9th 2022, officers responded to a disorderly call for service at 219 Dunlap Street in Asheboro. When they arrived they located a Hispanic male laying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshots wounds. The victim, 35-year-old Sergio Espinosa Ramirez of Asheboro died from the wounds he received. Police are actively investigating the shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Kallam at 336-626-1300 ext 317. In a post on Facebook on July 14th 2022, the town announced that the 2022 Trunk or Treat will be held at Riverside Park on Monday, October 31st from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Officials are asking for help from the community, "We need as many trunks/candy as possible. Please bring your ”trunk” and help us give out candy! ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman is facing a slew of charges after police say she fled from them after they tried to pull her vehicle over to investigate a report of a female being forced out of a vehicle. In a press release this week the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says that on June 7, 2022, a deputy was in the area of Caraway Mtn. Rd, near Asheboro, conducting an investigation, when a driver approached to report seeing a female being forced out of a vehicle on Caraway Mtn. Road. Deputies located that female, who was observed exiting the vehicle earlier on Caraway Mtn. Rd., and transported her to an area hospital for evaluation. ASHEBORO N.C. - An Asheboro man was killed in a fiery single vehicle accident overnight according to the NC Highway Patrol. At 10:10 p.m. on Thursday, July 7th, 2022, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on Bell Simmons Road near US 220 Business in Randolph County. According to Master Trooper Brian Martin, Troop D Public Information Officer, 69-year-old Michael Ray Cranford of Asheboro, N.C., was traveling west on Bell Simmons Road in a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero SUV. Cranford traveled off the road to the left and struck a tree when Cranford’s vehicle caught fire. Cranford was unrestrained and ejected during the collision and later died on scene.
