Inspired by superintendent of Asheboro City Schools Dr. Woody’s emphasis on community engagement, Asheboro High School’s Assistant Principal Brittany Roberts proposed having the police department cook hamburgers and hotdogs for Teacher Appreciation Week.“They suggested the idea of a friendly competition against the police department to add excitement to the week,” said Roberts. ASHEBORO — Starlab, a portable planetarium purchased by the State Library in 2018, is making a stop at several Randolph County Libraries this month. StarLab is a portable inflatable planetarium that uses a computer and projector to display various stellar and physics-related experiences and bring outer space to schools’ libraries, camps, scouting groups and more. The product was invented back in 1977 by Philip Sadler and his class of middle school students in Lincoln, Massachusetts. ASHEBORO N.C. — The Piedmont Opera and shift_ed have partnered up to host Student Night at the Opera, providing free opera tickets to all Randolph and Guilford counties students. All students in Randolph County can receive a free general admission ticket to the final dress rehearsal of 'The Marriage of Figaro' on March 20th, 2024, at 7:30 PM at The High Point Theatre. Chaperones will need to pay $15 for their ticket. Students must call the Piedmont Opera box office at (336) 725-7101 to reserve their ticket. The performance lasts approximately three hours and students may leave at intermission as it is a school night. For more information, visit PiedmontOpera.org

ASHEBORO, N.C. (City of Asheboro) – Registration is currently underway for the 2024 Randolph County Senior Games.  The 2024 Games will be held March 6 – April 17. Randolph County Senior Games is a health and wellness promotion and education program for adult’s age 50 and better.  Senior Games not only offers athletic events but the SilverArts, a program for artisans and craftspeople.  While some participants are serious competitors, most are more interested in having fun, learning something new, and making new friends.  The Randolph County Senior Games truly has “Something for the Artist and Athlete in Everyone”. ASHEBORO, N.C. (NC ZOO) — To celebrate the season of giving, the North Carolina Zoo is delighted to announce a December promotion to give back to the community: Jingle in the Jungle! From Dec. 18-22, all general admission is $5 for entry to the North Carolina Zoo. No other discounts apply; in-person sales only (no online reservations). The North Carolina Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the winter months and is closed to the public on Christmas Day (Monday, Dec. 25). Note that the Africa parking lot and ticket booths are closed for the winter, but guests can visit the entire park by entering through the North America ticket booths.
