As the weather gets warmer and days get longer, events are returning! This month is full of festivals, concerts, movies, hikes and more. Asheboro Present First Mariachi Festival | May 5th – 6th

ASHEBORO N.C. - The City of Asheboro has announced they will be hosting Asheboro’s first Mariachi Festival on the first weekend in May. The festival is split across two days, with a paid concert featuring Latin GRAMMY-Winning female group Flor de Toloache on Friday May 5th at the Sunset Theater, followed by a free event Saturday May 6th at Bicentennial Park featuring local Mariachi bands from the Triad and Asheboro's own Ballet Folkloric Guadalupano. Photo: Randolph County Sheriff's Office ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Safe Kids Randolph County are hosting a Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 19, 2023, to allow individuals to just drive through and dispose of prescription drugs that could be diverted or misused. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers the misuse of opioid medications an epidemic. Proper disposal of expired, unused, and unneeded medications from the home is a crucial element of a strategy for promoting public health and safety. Each day, approximately 2,500 teenagers use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. Storywalks are panels with pages of a children’s book spaced along the path in local parks, allowing children and families to take in a story along with their walk. The panels also include information about early literacy and resources available at the library and in the community. The cost of the classes is $225.00. Participants must meet and pass all prerequisites set by the American Red Cross. These include being a minimum age of 15, and being able to complete a 300-meter swim, the retrieval and return of a 10-pound object from an 8-foot depth, and a 2-minute tread without the use of hands. The events will be held on Monday, March 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the Asheboro Campus in rooms 111 and 117 of the Business Education Center and on Wednesday, March 15, from 4-7 p.m. at the Archdale Center in rooms 321 and 322 of the Archdale Center. ASHEBORO N.C. – The City of Asheboro presents Friday Night Bluegrass with the return of Just a Li’l Grace to the historic Sunset Theatre on Friday, February 17th beginning at 7:00pm. Friday Night Bluegrass is a monthly program of the Sunset Theatre that presents local as well as regional bluegrass talent on the third Friday of every month. This month’s concert will feature Just A Li’l Grace, anacoustic band focusing on bluegrass gospel music. Based in Chatham County, the band consists of Doug Stuart on guitar, his wife Stacey Stuart on bass, Lenward Camp on banjo, and Eddie Ingram on mandolin.
