Thousands Vaccinated In Randolph Over Weekend

ASHEBORO NC - Despite a start troubled by phone systems crashing, full appointments, and changes to the state vaccine plan mid-operation, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout is picking up steam in Randolph County. "I think the vaccine rollout in Randolph County has gone fairly well, given the obstacles", said Hope Haywood who is Randolph County's Commissioner for Health, "at least our citizens were in line at RCPH at midnight the night before, waiting in their cars". Randolph County Public Health had been in the slow lane due to a limited number of vaccines and no information about when more would arrive. COVID-19 Vaccine Plan Reaches 1B & Health Dept Release New Phone Number

ASHEBORO NC [ARCHIVED]- In a public service announcement released on Friday, January 8th, the Randolph County Health Department announced that it is now taking appointments for Phase 1b - Group 1 as well as a new vaccine appointment line to call. Under the vaccine plan the county is following, Phase 1a and Phase 1b, Group 1 are currently eligible for COVID-19 vaccines. These two groups include "Health care workers fighting COVID-19 & Long-Term Care staff and residents" and "Adults 75 years or older and frontline essential workers". An appointment is required to get the vaccine. Tremendously high call volume from people trying to make an appointment crashed the phone system earlier in the week. Phones Crash As Health Dept Begins COVID Vaccine Appointments

ASHEBORO NC [ARCHIVED]- High call volumes crashed the county's phone system after the Randolph County Health Department announced it would begin scheduling appointments for Phase 1b, group 1 Tuesday morning. Since receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine in Randolph county, Nurses and Paramedics at the health department have been working to get everyone eligible under Phase 1a vaccinated. That includes health care staff working with COVID-19 patients and workers administering COVID-19 vaccines.  The county health department is following a  phased vaccination plan set out by N.C. DHHS.
