ASHEBORO N.C. - Eric Hicks may be out of the running for Sheriff in 2022, but he’s nowhere near to being out of the news. Over the weekend, former candidate for Randolph County Sheriff, Eric Hicks was caught on video, along with another individual, removing a "Seabolt for Sheriff" campaign sign in Archdale. That sign was placed on private property at N Main St. and Mitchell Rd in Archdale with the permission of the landowner. At around 2pm, Archdale police received a call about two white males damaging a sign at the location. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Sheriff’s Office announced they made an arrest of an individual accused of stealing a truck with several guns inside last month. On January 10, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7000 block of NC HWY 49 South in Denton for a report of a vehicle theft. The victim told police that a truck containing several firearms had been stolen from the business. The Asheboro Police Department located the stolen truck on January 20, 2022. (ACME NEWS)- Two Deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's office had to be taken to the hospital after they were both struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Asheboro. According to Randolph County 911, at 12:31 p.m. a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office reported over the radio that her and another deputy had been struck by a vehicle in front of Glaze King Donuts on Albemarle Road. The fight took place Sunday night/Monday morning sometime after 1am at the Asheboro bar and restaurant. The ordeal was captured on video and later posted on Facebook. Broken up into stories with some posted out of order, the video shows how the fight starts as well as the fight itself and the aftermath of broken glass and knocked over tables and chairs. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man who shot into a house from a stolen vehicle last month was recently arrested and charged with a felony. On January 20, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bingham Loflin Rd. in Asheboro for a shooting into a residence. Deputies say they located a bullet hole on the west side of the home which faced Bingham Loflin Rd and that bullet had made it through the wall and into the home. Crime Scene Investigations collected evidence from the scene. ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver was arrested after he almost hit a deputy head on while passing in a no passing zone then led police on a high speed chase last week. According to a press release, on February 5th 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was traveling US 64 West when they were almost struck head on after a driver passed another vehicle in a no passing zone. The deputy flipped around and attempted pull over the driver who refused to stop and led police on a high speed vehicle chase. That chase ended when the driver made a turn on to Carriage Way, a dead-end road. ASHEBORO N.C. - The arrival of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) ambulances and paramedics is helping to ease the strain Randolph County EMS is feeling from high call volumes and staffing problems. Three ambulances with a total of 6 crew of EMTs and paramedics arrived in Randolph County late last week on February 3rd. “We applied a month or so ago when we found out there was another allocation being sent to the state.” Said Jared Byrd, Deputy Director at Randolph County Emergency Services in an email. Currently those crews have responded to 65 emergency calls since their arrival. “They are only running 911 calls. They each have a paramedic and EMT. ASHEBORO N.C. - Four people have been charged after the Asheboro Police Departments Vice Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant on a home on N Elm St last month. Sometime in early January, Detectives with the Asheboro Vice/Narcotics unit say there were able to make a controlled purchase of crack cocaine using a confidential informant at a home on N. Elm St. Using evidence from that purchase police were able to obtain a search warrant for the home on Jan 13th 2022. On January 14th 2022, Detectives with the Asheboro Vice/Narcotics and Special Enforcement Team, executed that search warrant. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Moore County Sheriff's Office used a K9 to locate and arrest a wanted suspect in Seagrove last week. On February 2nd, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division Detectives and Criminal Interdiction Team responded to Little Brook Rd. in Seagrove after receiving a request to assist the Moore County Sheriff's Office in locating Corey Tyler Hussey. Hussey was wanted on several outstanding warrants by both agencies, which had been working together on several cases involving Hussey who was accused of committing larcenies in both counties. ASHEBORO N.C. - A convicted felon is back in jail after brandishing a gun during an argument before fleeing the scene when 911 was called. On January 19, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a family fight on Kerr Drive, in Randleman. When deputies arrived they were told that Phillip Andrew Hess had come to the house and an argument ensued. During that argument police say that Hess was told to leave and refused before brandishing a firearm and verbally threatening the residents. The victim told police that when they called 911 Hess dropped the handgun and fled on foot. Responding deputies attempted to locate Hess but were unsuccessful.
