[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was injured in what officials are calling an accidental house fire last night in Asheboro. According to Samantha East, Public Information Officer with the Asheboro Fire Department at 10:42 pm, crews with the Asheboro Fire Department, along with Randolph County EMS were paged out to a structure fire at 1303 Uwharrie St. Officers with the Asheboro Police Department in the area reported heavy smoke billowing from windows of the home when they arrived. According to East the fire was quickly extinguished and crews were able to determine no one was home at the time of the fire, however a search of the home found the 2 family dogs had succumb to the smoke. AAA says they predict around 47.9 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday weekend from June 30th to July 4th. That number is up 3.7% over 2021, bringing the number of travelers just shy of the numbers in 2019, prior to most COVID-19 Stay at Home orders. In preparation for the increase in holiday travel, the Governor’s Highway Safety Program has started its annual Fourth of July Booze It & Lose It campaign, this year known as 'Operation Firecracker'. July 4th 2021 Archdale 6PM to 10PM - Creekside Park The city of Archdale will be holding a smaller 4th of July celebration this year. They will be shooting off fireworks the night of the 4th at Creekside park, just after dusk. Staff will park cars until the park is full and then the park will be closed. Food Trucks will open at 6pm, music by DJ Squirrel will begin at 6pm as well.
