ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver who sped past a police officer last weekend was arrested after being pulled over for speeding once officers realized the driver was intoxicated, with drugs and a gun in the car. On Saturday July 23rd 2022, a patrol officer with the Asheboro Police Department was about to turn onto North Fayetteville Street when they saw a dark in color passenger car drive past them at a high rate of speed. According to a police report, once the officer caught up to the vehicle they matched their speed with the suspect vehicle they estimated the suspect vehicle to be traveling at 86 mph, almost double the posted speed limit of 45mph. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man has been charged with multiple felonies after a search warrant of his home turned up enough drugs for police to seek trafficking charges. On June 9th, 2022, the Asheboro Police Departments' VICE/ Narcotics unit executed a search warrant at a home on Finchley Ct, located off Gold Hill Rd in Asheboro. According to a report from the department officers located and seized around 35 grams of Fentanyl and approximately 4.5 grams of cocaine and marijuana, along with cash, scales, baggies, and other paraphernalia. Maurice Gerald Lewis has been charged with trafficking-opium, possession with intent, maintain dwelling for controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man who shot at officers during a standoff in Liberty back in 2020 has been indicted by a Grand Jury and is facing multiple charges including Felony Attempted Murder. On September 13, 2020, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Liberty Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Hwy 49 N, just outside the Liberty city limits, regarding a domestic call and shots were fired inside the residence. The suspect, Robert Dwight Bender, had retreated into a structure behind the residence and the caller was safely removed from the house. ASHEBORO N.C. - What started as a call for a possible overdose in Asheboro ended with two people arrested, a gun seized, a stolen car recovered, all after a vehicle chase. On June 30, 2022 at around 6pm emergency crews and police were called to a possible overdose in the parking lot of the Randolph Mall. The 911 caller stated two subjects were slumped over inside a vehicle, which was parked in front of Belks. ASHEBORO N.C. - Three people were recently charged in connection with a violent home invasion and robbery in Randleman that took place earlier this year. According to the the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on February 13th, 2022, they responded to a reported home invasion, robbery and assault on WOW Rd., in Randleman. The victim told police two males entered the home, held her down, and sprayed her with pepper spray. In a press release the Randolph County Sheriff's Office says that on June 14th, 2022 a Sargent with the department's patrol division went to a home on Sandalwood Dr. in Denton to serve a criminal summons for livestock running at large on Melina Kay Robinson. ASHEBORO N.C. - A 911 call about an armed robbery in progress in Asheboro led to three people being arrested, two on prostitution charges. A police report from the Asheboro Police Department says that just after 8 pm on Monday June 13th 2022, a 911 caller reported that a male had a gun and was trying to rob them at a home on Ross St. When officers arrived they found a car and a pickup truck facing each other in the driveway of the home with 2 males standing outside the passenger car and a male and a female inside the pickup truck.
