Fire Investigator (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO — A Thomasville woman has turned herself in after being indicted in connection with two house fires that occurred in 2022. According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jades Way in Thomasville on Aug. 29, 2022, to investigate two separate residential fires at the same location — one that day and another occurring two days earlier on Aug. 27. The Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office notified the sheriff’s office that the fires were suspicious in nature. The sheriff’s office says following their investigation with the fire marshal’s office, the case was taken to the Randolph County Grand Jury during their March 2024 session. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local woman has been charged with arson after a house fire near Asheboro this week. On April 11th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Waynick Meadow Rd., Asheboro, in reference to a residential fire. When deputies arrived fire crews on scene had already contained the fire. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, deputies had responded to two earlier calls at the same residence for arguments between persons living at the address. One resident advised that she was inside when she heard someone beating on the outside of the residence and shouting that it was on fire. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced several charges against a local man related to an intentional fire set at a DMV office and deputies didn't have to go far to find him as he was already in jail accused of stealing a car. On November 24, 2022, at around 5 pm, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Office on US Hwy 220 Bus. S., Asheboro, after receiving a call about breaking & entering and larceny. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly tried to set a house on fire in Franklinville. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on July 31, 2022, deputies responded with the Franklinville Fire Department to a report of a house fire on W. Main St. in Franklinville. The Sheriff's Office says their deputies received information that a Hispanic male subject in a red shirt, approached the residence with a gas can, and set the residence on fire. They were able to identify that male as Evelio Pinales, who was later located and arrested at his residence. Pinales was charged with one count of felony second degree arson. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman was arrested after police say she set 5 separate fires in the Asheboro area that all occurred on the same day and in the same area. Police began investigating on March 3rd after fire crews and the Fire Marshal's Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to the scene of a fire on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. Fire crews reported five separate and distinct fires with one spreading to a vacant outbuilding, a second fire ignited three vehicles and the three other fires burned wooded areas. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman has been charged in connection with a house fire back on Sunday in Asheboro. Thats according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office who in a press release said that on November 28, 2021 they responded to the scene of a house fire at the request of the Fire Marshal Investigator. That investigation, a team effort between the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Criminal Investigations Detectives, determined that Laura Nicole Gunter had intentionally set fire to the home on Staleys Farm Rd., in Asheboro. Gunter was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for charge of Felony Fraudulently Burning Dwelling. ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS)- This morning we are learning more about a mobile home fire Sunday that police believed was set intentionally. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release today that on the morning of Sunday November 21st, 2021, a deputy in the area of US 220 Bus S, near New Hope Church Rd saw a large amount of black smoke coming from Drum St. When that deputy arrived they reported a mobile home was on fire.
