ASHEBORO N.C. - This week the Randolph County Sheriff's Office Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested a suspect from a vehicle pursuit that occurred back in July. According to a press release, on July 13th, 2023, a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle with a fictitious tag and attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled leading to a vehicle pursuit. The Sherriff's Office says the driver continued at a high rate of speed and drove in the opposite lane of travel westbound on Lexington Rd. until the deputy lost sight of the vehicle. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man wanted as a suspect in a sex crime case in Randolph County was arrested in N.Y. state last month. On February 6th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of sexual acts upon minors. An investigation led to Detectives obtaining charges against Sherwin McDonald Edwards for six counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and two counts statutory sex offense with a child under 15 years of age. ASHEBORO N.C. - A wanted suspect who led police on a vehicle chase near Ramseur in which they crashed into a camper before getting away was arrested by the Criminal Apprehension Team this week. On February 3, 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol saw a vehicle at a gas station outside of Ramseur that they knew was driven by Randall Ray Burgess, who had outstanding Orders for Arrest. Police say when the approached the vehicle, Burgess attempted to drive away onto Lee Layne Rd. The deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over for a traffic stop but police say Burgess refused to stop and led police on a pursuit. ASHEBORO N.C. - We are still waiting on details from Asheboro Police about what led up to a vehicle chase and manhunt in Asheboro.  The Randolph County Sherriff's office says On June 18, 2021, patrol units and the Criminal Apprehension Team responded to Rock Lane in Asheboro, in reference to an attempt to locate Matthew Lee McDowell, a wanted subject, following a sighting in the area shortly after 5:00 pm. He was located laying in thick brush in an overgrown wooded area behind residences on Westchapel Rd.
