ASHEBORO N.C. – Two men are facing charges for assaulting first responders earlier this week and the dangerous incident highlights the hazards first responders can face. On January 7th, 2024, at around 6 a.m. Randolph County 911 received a 911 hang-up with yelling in the background. Operators were attempting to call the number back, when around three-minutes later, another 911 call came in from a neighbor stating that a male subject had come running into their residence covered in blood saying he had been assaulted by someone he lived with. As the phone call continued the 911 telecommunicator, learned the other male subject was attempting to get into the home and they could hear screaming. MJ Auman, a firefighter with the Seagrove Fire Dept, died of a fatal gunshot wound on June 25th, 2022. An investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office led to charges against the wife Heather Auman who has been confined at the Randolph County Jail without bond, facing a charge of first-degree murder since June 29th, 2022. The state recently declined to purse a capital case, taking the death penalty off the table, and allowing the defense attorneys for Auman to submit a monition for bond, which was held on Monday, February 6th, 2023. ASHEBORO, N.C. (RAMSEUR FD) – The Randolph County Association of Fire Chiefs is kicking off the 2022 Fire Prevention Week by hosting an annual Firefighter Day on October 8th , 2022. The event will be held in the Randolph County Courthouse parking lot at 176 East Salisbury Street in Asheboro from 9am – 4pm. The majority of fire departments that serve Randolph County, along with Ash-Rand Rescue Squad and EMS will be present with informational displays, apparatus and personnel. North Carolina Forest Service, Smokey Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will also be in attendance. Fire prevention materials and three hundred smoke alarms will be given away to attendees. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office says on Saturday, June 25th, 2022, they responded to Ridge Rd in Seagrove after receiving a 911 call regarding an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound. They identified the victim as 37-year-old MJ (Mishael James) Auman, and say he was transported to an area hospital by emergency personnel where he succumbed to his injuries. Then you will want to check out the Asheboro Fire Department's upcoming Fire Explorer Program. The program will be from 6-7, starting on Wednesday April 20th, 2022 and meet every other week. "We’ll break during summer and pick back up when school resumes in the fall." said Samantha East, Public Information Officer with the Asheboro Fire Department.
