ASHEBORO N.C. - This month the Randolph County Grand Jury handed down indictments for a local woman on several drug and trafficking charges. During the November 2023 session of the Randolph County Grand Jury, True Bill of Indictments were issued on Erica Lynn Locklear for the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, these indictments were issued as a result of investigations conducted by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Narcotics Unit. Erica Lynn Locklear has been indicted for multiple felony drug charges. She was served on November 18, 2023, and received a $250,000 secured bond. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Grand Jury has indicted a local man for multiple felonies involving sexual crimes with a minor. On December 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding allegations of sexual offenses involving minors. Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher Lee Clark for two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, two counts felony disseminate obscenity, six counts felony first degree statutory sex offense, and misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 years of age. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man who shot at officers during a standoff in Liberty back in 2020 has been indicted by a Grand Jury and is facing multiple charges including Felony Attempted Murder. On September 13, 2020, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Liberty Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Hwy 49 N, just outside the Liberty city limits, regarding a domestic call and shots were fired inside the residence. The suspect, Robert Dwight Bender, had retreated into a structure behind the residence and the caller was safely removed from the house. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man who is currently in jail charged with first degree murder related to child abuse was recently indicted by the Grand Jury in connection with a 2011 child abuse case. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, during the June session of Grand Jury, a true bill of indictment was issued for the arrest of Billy Ray Newsome, III, for felony child abuse-inflicting serious bodily injury. The Sheriff's office says the indictment stems from a 2011 child abuse case investigated by the Sheriff’s Office's Criminal Investigations Division where Newsome was charged in 2012 for assaulting a seven-month-old child; but, the case was dismissed in 2013 for lack of evidence. Rona Lee Brown According to information released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, during the February session of the Randolph County Grand Jury, a True Bill of Indictment was issued on Rona Lee Brown following an investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit which say they seized approximately 59 grams of Methamphetamine. ASHEBORO NC – A Grand Jury has indicted an Asheboro man in the 2019 overdose death of Amber Cox and her unborn child. Back on April 7th 2019 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to an overdose at 1123 Ingram Dr. Asheboro NC. When they arrived they found Amber Leigh Cox unresponsive in what they said appeared to be a suspected heroin overdose. Police say the located evidence of recent drug use at the scene. Randolph County EMS arrived and attempted lifesaving procedures before pronouncing Cox and her unborn child deceased on the scene. Amber Cox was nine months pregnant at the time of her death.
