Fire at Asheboro Home Leaves One Dead, Police Say

ASHEBORO N.C. - Police are investigating a fire at an Asheboro home that left one person dead. According to the Asheboro Police Department, on January 23rd, 2024, at around 3:30pm, officers were dispatched to 308 South Park Street at the request of the Asheboro Fire Department. When officers arrived, they learned the victim was sitting in a wheelchair on the front porch of a residence when a fire started in, or around, the wheelchair.  The victim was transported to a local medical facility where he died from his injuries.  Officers identified the individual as Roman Aleksander Stobnicki and say detectives from the department’s Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the case to determine the origins of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the incident...

Voting Hours Polling locations today will be open until 7:30pm. Where is my polling location? ASHEBORO N.C. - There is just a little over a day left to vote ahead of the 2022 mid-terms elections scheduled to take place on November 8th, 2022. Early voting in Randolph County runs today through 7:30pm and Saturday Nov 5th from 8am to 3pm. (View Early Voting Schedule Here) There is no early voting on Sunday Nov 6th or Monday Nov 7th as North Carolina Statute requires a break on those days, between the end of early voting and the start of the election. If you were hoping to vote by mail instead, the deadline to request a ballot ended on November 1st. So far since early voting started on October 20th, 2022, over 22,000 residents of Randolph County have voted early. Thats on par with the last mid-terms in 2018 where 26,000 residents voted early. ASHEBORO N.C. - Daylight Saving Time for 2022 ends this weekend with clocks set to Fall-Back by one hour giving Americans back the hour of sleep they lost in March, but also brining sunset an hour earlier. Daylight Saving Time started on March 13th, 2022, when clocks were set an hour forward. Thirty-four weeks later DST is set to end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6th, 2022. With accurate trimming being necessary for accurate GPS which runs everything from navigation to timing of banking transactions most clocks change their time automatically taking some of the sting out of the change.
