TRINITY N.C. - A driver is facing felony drug charges and misdemeanor DUI and gun charges after police say they found him and his passenger asleep at an intersection in a running vehicle. On October 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of NC Hwy 62 and Surrett Dr., in Trinity, for a welfare check on a vehicle stopped at an intersection with the driver slumped over at the wheel. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, when the deputy approached the vehicle they smelled the "strong odor of marijuana and alcohol emitting from the vehicle and an open bottle of alcohol was observed in the backseat of the vehicle." Photo by Scott Pelkey / Acme News Archive ASHEBORO NC - A wanted suspect was arrested following a vehicle chase than ended in a crash on Hwy 62 over the weekend. According to information from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 2, 2021, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle on Hwy 311 near Shean Dr in Archdale. Police say the driver immediately sped off starting a vehicle pursuit. The chase left 311 on to Tom Hill Rd then on to Trinity Rd. and NC HWY 62. That's when police say the driver lost control of the vehicle near the 5200 block of NC HWY 62 leaving the roadway and colliding with trees.
