SOPHIA N.C. - Today, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced they have filed charges against the father of a two-year-old who suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the leg after getting ahold of a firearm earlier this month. On October 13th 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accidental shooting on Beckerdite Rd. in Sophia. The victim, a two-year-old, had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was being treated by Guil-Rand Fire when the deputies arrived. An investigation into the incident found that four individuals, two adults and two children, had driven a pickup truck out onto a recently purchased property and walked around before returning to the truck. ASHEBORO N.C. - Deputies and School Resource Officers across Randolph County are taking extra precaution today after receiving information about vague threats of a school shooting were found on social media. On the evening of May 4th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says it received information regarding a potential threat to schools in Randolph County. "Detectives are actively investigating a picture posted on Snapchat that shows an image of a phone screen with a message related to a threat to commit a school shooting on May 5," said the Sheriff's Office in a press release. SBI Investigates Inmate Death at Randolph County Jail

ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office along with the SBI is investigating the death of an inmate earlier this month at the Randolph County Jail. On July 18th, 2022, shortly before 9:00 am, an inmate at the Randolph County Jail was found unresponsive by detention center staff conducting medical rounds. According to a press release, medical staff and officers performed CPR until EMS arrived. The inmate was transported to Randolph Health where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The SBI has been notified of the incident and is investigating the death along with the Sheriff's Office’s Criminal Investigations Division. The body was transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh for an autopsy which found that the inmate had several heart...

In the early morning hours of Jan. 7th, 2020, the suspect, twenty-one-year-old Troy Chase Caster, who was being sought by police in Rowan county for allegedly robbing a female cab driver at gunpoint led deputies on a chase from Rowan County through Stanly County and Davidson County and into Randolph County. The chase at times went in excess of 100 mph. Deputies reported that Caster was firing shots at the deputies before driving toward the Africa entrance of the NC Zoo.
