ASHEBORO N.C. - What started as a call for a possible overdose in Asheboro ended with two people arrested, a gun seized, a stolen car recovered, all after a vehicle chase. On June 30, 2022 at around 6pm emergency crews and police were called to a possible overdose in the parking lot of the Randolph Mall. The 911 caller stated two subjects were slumped over inside a vehicle, which was parked in front of Belks. According to Assistant Chief of Police Robbie Brown with the Asheboro Police Department, officers arrived and located the vehicle. ASHEBORO N.C. - An Asheboro Police officer has resigned after being charged with driving while impaired while off-duty last month. In the early morning hours of Friday, May 27th 2022, a patrol officer with the Asheboro Police Department conducted a traffic stop for suspicion of DWI on U.S. Highway 64 near Presnell St. The driver in that stop was identified by police as 25-year-old M’Leigha Tashona Brown, an off-duty officer with the Asheboro City Police Department. M’Leigha Tashona Brown Troopers with the NC State Highway Patrol, who were requested by officers on scene arrived at the traffic stop and transported Brown to the Randolph County Jail for a breath test. According to the Highway Patrol that test registered a blood alcohol level of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit. ...

ASHEBORO N.C. - Two children died, and a their mother was seriously injured overnight in a vehicle crash on I-73, north of Asheboro. Just before 1 a.m, on Monday May 30th 2022, first responders with Westside Fire Department and Randolph County EMS were dispatched to an unknown vehicle accident on I-73/74 northbound, at the Spero Rd exit. As dispatchers gathered more information they learned it was a single vehicle accident with two children severely injured. According to the NC Highway Patrol, just before 2 am on May 20th 2022, Troopers were called to a single vehicle accident on US Hwy 64 near Mount Shepherd Rd. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Juan De Medina-Garcia of Asheboro, was traveling west on US Hwy 64 when he went off the right side of the roadway, over corrected, before traveling off the road on the left side of the roadway and overturning. ASHEBORO N.C. (NC SHP) – Two cars stopped after a minor crash on I-73/74 this morning were struck by a third vehicle bringing the early morning commute on the interstate to a crawl. According to a press release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NC SHP), at 7:26 am on Friday, May 6th 2022, troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-73 (southbound) near Presnell Street in Randolph County. ASHEBORO N.C. — A driver who was involved in a serious accident in Randolph County Wednesday night died from from his injuries this afternoon. The North Carolina Highway Patrol says at 8:31 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021, Troopers responded to a crash on WOW Road near Phillips Road. Forty-Eight year old Christopher Brian Michael from Pine Hall, N.C., was driving south on WOW Road in a when he crossed the center line, traveled off the roadway to the left and overturned. The Highway Patrol says Michael wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. ASHEBORO NC – Two officers helped a stranded motorist push his car into a parking lot before they ended up arresting him. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 14, 2021, one of their deputies and an SBI agent stopped to help a driver whose car had broken down on McDowell Road near the Sherriff's Office. The two officers helped push the vehicle into the parking lot when they say they noticed the driver was under the influence. The driver, identified as Ricardo Palacios, had an outstanding Order for Arrest for Failure to Appear for Resisting a Public Officer and was placed under arrest.
