At the City Council Meeting held on November 8th, 2023, council members voted unanimously to authorize $120,000 from the city’s general fund to make an offer to purchase 3.25 acres of land on Zoo Parkway at Crestview Church Rd. That land would be used to build a new Fire Station and Emergency Operations Center which is needed to help keep up with increasing call volume and to ensure response times stay at or under five minutes now and into the future. Driver Charged with DUI After Crashing into Randleman Bar

RANDLEMAN N.C. - A driver was charged with driving under the influence last night after crashing into a bar in Randleman. At around 10:30 p.m., Randleman Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into Red Zone Sports Bar & Grill, located at 725 S Main St, in Randleman. Emergency crews arrived to find a dark GMC SUV that had crashed through a gate and into the east side of the building. Randolph County EMS responded to the scene to evaluate the driver, who refused transport to the hospital. No other injuries were reported. The Randleman Police Department investigated the crash, which led to 27-year-old Peyton Alley Clark being issued a summons for driving under the influence. Increased Fire Danger Today as Crews Return from Battling Poplar Drive Fire

ASHEBORO N.C. - A warning from the National Weather Service of increased fire danger today comes as local fire crews return from assisting with the Poplar Drive Fire in Henderson County. Today at 9:15 a.m., the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh issued a notice that low humidity, dry conditions, and northeasterly wind gusts of up to 15 mph will create conditions for an increased fire danger today through 7 p.m. Officials strongly encourage citizens to avoid any outdoor burning, properly discard cigarette butts and matches and be careful with equipment that may cause sparks. The warnings come amid an uptick in brush and forest fires. In Randolph County, in just the last two weeks fire crews have responded to around 70 grass, brush, or forest fires. The N.C....

Just before 6 p.m., Randolph County 911 dispatched Westside and Asheboro Fire Departments along with Randolph County EMS to US Hwy 64 W at Mack Rd, for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in front of the Citgo. Two Arrested after Online Sale Meet-Up Turns into Shootout, says RCSO

ASHEBORO N.C. - Two people were arrested after an incident last month where a meetup for an online sale turned into a shootout, leaving one person injured. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on October 27th, 2023, deputies responded to Creekway Ridge, in Asheboro, for a report of a gunshot wound. When deputies arrived, they located the victim who told investigators that a white male suspect had arrived at the residence to buy items listed for sale online. According to the press release, the suspect “began firing shots” at the seller who “returned fire with a shotgun” before the suspect fled the scene in a black SUV striking a concrete well cap and damaging it. Temporary Traffic Signal Coming to Highway Intersection Near Megasite

JULIAN N.C. - The N.C. Department of Transportation will be installing a temporary traffic light on the southbound exit ramp for U.S. 421 at Hwy 62 in the coming weeks to help relieve traffic from the Megasite. In the coming days crews working for N.C. DOT will install a temporary traffic signal at the U.S. 421 Southbound exit ramp with N.C. 62. On Nov. 20th, the new signal will be activated to help mitigate traffic congestion associated with construction at the Greensboro Randolph Megasite. The signal will remain in place until the new interchange at U.S. 421 and Julian Airport Road is completed in August of next year. Motorists are advised to stay alert when approaching the new traffic pattern.
