ASHEBORO N.C.- One-stop early voting is now available at the Randolph County Board of Elections, 1457 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Municipal General Election is held to elect mayors and members of the local cities and towns governing boards for Asheboro, Franklinville, High Point, Liberty, Ramseur, Randleman, Seagrove, Staley and Thomasville, as well as the Asheboro Board of Education. The Randolph County Board of Election would like to remind voters of the following important information: Photo ID is required in North Carolina, beginning with the 2023 Municipal Election. 2-Year-Old Injured in Accidental Shooting Friday Evening

SOPHIA N.C. - A 2-year-old was injured Friday evening after getting ahold of a firearm and accidently shooting themself in the leg, says the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On Friday October 13th, 2023, just after 6 p.m., deputies responded to a home in Sophia for an accidental gunshot wound. The Sheriff's Office says that a 2-year-old child "grabbed their father’s pistol and accidentally pulled the trigger while the whole family was in their vehicle on their farm/land." The condition of the child is unknown at this time other than that they suffered a superficial wound to their leg. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident and no further information is available currently.

The 2023 solar eclipse is what's known as an annular, or partial, solar eclipse. The moon will pass between the orbit of the Earth and the Sun casting a shadow on the Earth across its path. [Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C.- A driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-73/74 late Monday night that shutdown the interstate for nearly three hours. Just after 10:30 p.m. Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department, Randolph County EMS, Asheboro Police, and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on I-73/74 northbound, near the Sunset Ave exit. The State Highway Patrol was also notified of the crash and Troopers responded to investigate. In a press release, the Highway Patrol says that Abdelaleem Mustafa Alnagar, 23, of Colfax, N.C., was stopped on the northbound shoulder of I-73/74 in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. According to police reports on Oct 6th, 2023, at around 7 p.m., an officer responded to the Randolph Mall for a report of a fraud. An employee at a business inside the mall told officers that a male had come into the business and paid with a counterfeit $100 dollar bill. While at the mall, the officer was notified by security that another business in the mall was reporting receiving a counterfeit bill from a male. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) announced today that zebra mussels, a harmful invasive aquatic species, have been identified in an Iredell County waterbody. This is the first time this species has been identified in the wild in North Carolina. On Thursday, September 21, 2023, NCWRC, with assistance from scuba divers from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, investigated and confirmed a report of zebra mussels in a quarry on private property. NCWRC believes the mussels are contained to the quarry and is working on options for treatment while continuing its investigation. Zebra mussels are prolific.
