Road Construction Coming Soon As DOT Awards Repair Contracts

ASHEBORO NC - With spring well underway in North Carolina, nice weather brings with it the things North Carolinaians dred, pollen and road construction. According to a press release by NCDOT, they have awarded 4 contracts to repair 70 miles of roadways in central North Carolina, with many of those repairs here in Randolph County. The projects call for milling and resurfacing and in most locations shoulder grading or reconstruction. They are all either getting underway or set to begin as early as May 1. The contracts for Randolph County are: 23.4 miles along seven sections of U.S. 64 and eight sections of secondary roads. New Policy will Expand Internet Access for More North Carolina Citizens

RALEIGH NC (NCDOT PRESS RELEASE) – More North Carolinians, especially in rural areas, will be able to access affordable, high-speed internet service, thanks to the new state Dig Once Policy spearheaded by Governor Roy Cooper. “The pandemic has highlighted the critical need for high-speed internet in our daily lives,” said Governor Cooper. "Making it easier to install broadband will help people from all corners of our state get connected to online health care, education and business services they need.” The Dig Once Policy, which took effect March 1, will help expand broadband access in the state by making it less expensive and easier to install broadband conduit along state-maintained roads. Detour Upcoming for NC 49 in Randolph County

LIBERTY NC.(NC DOT PRESS RELEASE)- State transportation maintenance crews need to close a section of N.C. 49 in Liberty for about two weeks to conduct an emergency replacement of a storm drain. The drain failed where it passes under the highway near South Valley Street on the eastern side of the town. Starting Monday, traffic will be detoured to follow East Dameron Avenue/Silk Hope Liberty Road, Hinshaw Shop Road and Staley Store Road/Town Country Road to access points on either side of the closure. Drivers should be mindful of crews working in this area and factor the detour into their commutes. For more information or updates about the closure visit the Drive NC site
