ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver is facing multiple charges after the Sheriff's Office says he crashed into a street sign and a patrol vehicle while intoxicated behind the wheel. On June 10th, 2023, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputies returning from a call were traveling westbound on US Hwy 64 E when near Substation Rd (near the 64-bypass split) they observed a vehicle that had crashed into a street sign in the median. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man found unconscious and laying in a driveway is facing charges after police say he drove there in a stolen vehicle. On January 13th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Mill Race Ct., in Sophia, after receiving a call about a possible overdose. The caller reported a male subject was unconscious in the driveway of the residence. When Deputies arrived, they say they located Robert Crumpton, unconscious and lying in the driveway. Deputies cleared the scene for Randolph County EMS who responded to the scene to render aid. According to a police report from the Asheboro Police Department on Nov 14th, 2022, at around 3:30am officers were called to a vehicle accident on N Main St in Asheboro. When they arrived, they located the vehicle on top of a rock wall in the yard of a home. Police say the suspect appeared to be overdosing and was given several doses of Narcan. The driver, whom police identified as 28-year-old David M Davis of Asheboro, was transported to a local medical facility. ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver is facing a laundry list of charges after police say they found her barely breathing behind the wheel of an SUV last week, after she struck 2 street signs and part of a convenience store on Sunset Ave. According to police reports from the Asheboro Police Department on Wednesday July 13th just before 3:30am, officers responded to 509 Sunset Ave in Asheboro for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When officers arrived they say they located a gray SUV running, with its lights next to a dumpster in a grassy area next the the Quik Chek. ASHEBORO N.C. - What started as a call for a possible overdose in Asheboro ended with two people arrested, a gun seized, a stolen car recovered, all after a vehicle chase. On June 30, 2022 at around 6pm emergency crews and police were called to a possible overdose in the parking lot of the Randolph Mall. The 911 caller stated two subjects were slumped over inside a vehicle, which was parked in front of Belks. According to Assistant Chief of Police Robbie Brown with the Asheboro Police Department, officers arrived and located the vehicle. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, on March 17th, 2022, Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene investigators responded to Erik Dr, in Trinity for a fatal overdose That investigation led them to obtain a warrant for Ivey Tatum Elswick for Felony Death by Distribution on June 20, 2022. ASHEBORO NC – A Grand Jury has indicted an Asheboro man in the 2019 overdose death of Amber Cox and her unborn child. Back on April 7th 2019 the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to an overdose at 1123 Ingram Dr. Asheboro NC. When they arrived they found Amber Leigh Cox unresponsive in what they said appeared to be a suspected heroin overdose. Police say the located evidence of recent drug use at the scene. Randolph County EMS arrived and attempted lifesaving procedures before pronouncing Cox and her unborn child deceased on the scene. Amber Cox was nine months pregnant at the time of her death.
