ASHEBORO N.C. – Ahead of expected heavy rain, strong winds, and the threat of flash flooding on Tuesday the National Weather Service office in Raleigh has issued a Flash Flood Watch and Wind Advisory for much of central N.C. including Randolph County. According to forecasters, a strong storm system will bring widespread heavy rain, gusty to damaging winds, and the threat of a few tornadoes to central N.C. on Tuesday January 9th, 2024. Severe weather is expected to begin to arrive in Randolph County starting as soon as noon on Tuesday and is expected to continue until late into the night. Raleigh National Weather Service Radar Down for Maintenance

ASHEBORO N.C. - Starting today, April 17th, 2023, the KRAX Weather Radar operated by NOAA's National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, NC, will be unavailable for approximately two weeks for a critical upgrade. The radar is going offline for planned maintenance as technicians refurbish and replace the pedestal, a critical component necessary for antenna rotation and positioning. "The components are extremely heavy and will require the radome to be removed by crane and replaced when the work is completed," said the NWS office in a press release. "The radar and pedestal were designed to last 25 years, and these components have exceeded their projected life span." ASHEBORO N.C. - As Tropical Storm Nicole is nearing Hurricane strength off the coast of Florida forecasters are warning of heavy rains and the risk of tornadoes locally starting as soon as tomorrow afternoon. Timing After moving into Florida, Nicole will eventually turn northeastward and move up across the Carolinas with impacts expected to be felt locally as soon as Thursday afternoon. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two men from Raleigh were in jail this morning after being charged in connection with a stolen car and drugs. On the night of November 11th 2021, police responded to Matlab on Hwy 49 South. Officers with the departments S.E.T. team had located a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat that had been reported stolen out of Raleigh behind a warehouse at the business and had fled from police earlier in the day. While the Asheboro officers were on the scene the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office had simultaneously received a call about a suspicious persons on Revelle Trl which runs behind the plant. Sheriff’s deputies located to males, who were arrested. They were identified as 22 year-old Tyrese Deshawn Gibson and 18 year-old Ayden Zoroun Poole. Both were charged with Felony possession ...

FLASH FLOOD WARNING ASHEBORO NC - The National Weather Service in Raleigh has placed North-west Randolph County under a Flash Flood Warning until at least 8:45 PM. The warning which was issued just before 7 PM came as rescue first responders were involved in two separate rescues of trapped motorist. Weather Service officials said Emergency Management had reported strong thunderstorms producing heavy rain and flooded roadways with reports of between 2.5 and 3.5 inches of rain. The Level Cross Fire Department along with Ash-Rand Rescue were called to Randleman lake after for a boat caught in the storm, began taking on water while stuck on a stump in the lake.
