According to a press release, the scam works like this: The scammer calls a family member using either a blocked caller ID or one that says something official like, “State of North Carolina,” and tells them that their loved one could be released from jail with an electronic ankle monitor (sometimes called electronic house arrest or EHA) for either a flat fee of several hundred dollars and/or a monthly 'monitoring' fee. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, on August 7th, 2023, Mason Bryce Wooten was observed in surveillance footage striking a sprinkler head in his cell, setting off the system in his cell, at the Randolph County Jail. The jail launched an investigation which found Wooten had intentionally damaged the sprinkler head which lead to a felony charge of interfering with jail fire system and misdemeanor charges of injury to real property and assault on government employee in connection with the incident. On January 10th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office SRO responded after staff at Ramseur Elementary School reported an irate parent at the school. While the SRO was responding, Randolph County 911 received a call where the caller claimed that someone had fired a weapon into the school. According to the Sheriff's Office, the SRO arrived and parked in front of the door and was met by the irate parent, who they identified as Brittany Desha Andrews. Anyone interested in learning more about a career with Randolph County Sheriff's Office is invited to attend one of four information sessions with recruiters and detention staff. Events will be on September 15th, October 6th, October 27th, and November 10th from 6pm to 8pm at the Randolph County Sheriff's Office main office on McDowell Rd in Asheboro. SBI Investigates Inmate Death at Randolph County Jail

ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office along with the SBI is investigating the death of an inmate earlier this month at the Randolph County Jail. On July 18th, 2022, shortly before 9:00 am, an inmate at the Randolph County Jail was found unresponsive by detention center staff conducting medical rounds. According to a press release, medical staff and officers performed CPR until EMS arrived. The inmate was transported to Randolph Health where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The SBI has been notified of the incident and is investigating the death along with the Sheriff's Office’s Criminal Investigations Division. Juan Jose Figueroa Jimenez Juan Jose Figueroa Jimenez was charged with felony crimes against nature and three counts of felony indecent liberties with a child after the Sheriff's Office received information about sexual offenses on December 15, 2021 that led them to start an investigation. (RCSO) - Community leaders, citizens and law enforcement representatives are invited to attend an open house for the jail expansion at 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27. Tours of the expansion, led by staff members, will be offered to all citizens until 5:00 p.m. Citizens will not come in contact with anyone currently confined at the facility.The jail expansion was approved to address inmate overcrowding and the ultimate need for additional, individual cells to better manage the inmate population.
