ASHEBORO — Two homicide suspects wanted in South Carolina were arrested on Friday in Randolph County, according to the Sheriff's Office. On May 3rd, law enforcement agencies in Randolph County received an alert from law enforcement officials out of York County, S.C. that two homicide suspects had left South Carolina and were heading north on I-85. Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and other local law enforcement agencies began to work to locate the suspects. ASHEBORO — A shooting overnight left a 16-year-old in the hospital with a gunshot wound and police searching a second 16-year-old suspect. Friday night around 9:30 p.m., officers with the Asheboro Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of North Asheboro Park on Canoy Drive. At about 3 p.m. Wednesday, an internet outage began to affect large parts of Randolph County. By 6 p.m., Randolph County Emergency Services had posted to Facebook that it was experiencing a “degradation in the phone and internet services affecting Brightspeed and AT&T customers.” The same outage also affected internet and telephone services at the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, which also notified the public through social media. At around 6:17 a.m. emergency crews responded to a single vehicle accident on Providence Church Road near Oxendine Road. First responders with the Level Cross Volunteer Fire Department reported one person was pinned in the vehicle and preformed a quick extraction before transferring care to Randolph County EMS. Asheboro man arrested in connection with fatal hit & run on I-73

ASHEBORO — An Asheboro man has been charged and arrested in connection with a fatal hit and run earlier this month on I-73 near Greensboro. Around 7:30 a.m. on April 17th, 2024, the State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on I-73 south, near West Steeple Chase Road in Guilford County. According to the Highway Patrol, 55-year-old Clyde Strickland, of Raeford, N.C. was walking south on I-73 when he was struck by a vehicle. On Monday, April 22nd, the Highway Patrol was notified by medical staff that Strickland had succumbed to injuries. Following the crash the NC Highway Patrol sent out a press release to local media outlets asking for information to identify the vehicle and/or driver. In what is being called an isolated incident, early Saturday morning two individuals received minor injuries after being attacked by a coyote on the Uwharrie Trail near Big Island Creek. Hugo Ruiz Mendez ASHEBORO — Following a tip and investigation the Randolph County Sheriff's Office charged a suspect with a sex offense involving a minor. According to a press release, on February 8th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a possible sex offense involving a minor. Following an investigation of the allegations, Criminal Investigation Detectives sought charges against Hugo Ruiz Mendez for felony indecent liberties with a child. On April 23, 2024, Mendez was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $15,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for April 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.

ASHEBORO — A suspect wanted on four active warrants was arrested at a traffic stop in Trinity on Saturday driving a stolen vehicle, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on April 20th, 2024, deputies pulled over a vehicle matching the description of one reported stolen out of Davidson County. The driver, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Grayson Thor Miller was arrested at the scene. Grayson Thor Miller Miller also had four confirmed active warrants for arrest which included a misdemeanor probation violation out of Randolph County, two counts of felony habitual larceny out of Guilford County, and felony larceny of motor vehicle for the same vehicle out of Davidson County.
