Town of Liberty to Conduct Sewer Smoke Testing Thursday

LIBERTY N.C. - The Town of Liberty has announced they will be conducting sewer smoke testing this Thursday (Jan 4th, 2024). The town announced the testing on Facebook. According to post, "smoke testing consists of injecting a harmless, non-toxic fog into a manhole, which will then spread throughout the path of the piping and will take place in the south and east portions of the town. Map - OpenStreetMap® The testing is taking place to detect potential issues and defects throughout the sewer collection system resulting from inflow and infiltration (l & l) from rain water and other liquids that may enter the sewer collection system and have to be treated at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)." ASHEBORO N.C. - The city of Asheboro has announced they will be conducting smoke testing of the Sanitary Sewer System in Dixieland Acres and Surrounding areas starting today. In a notice on the city's website, the City of Asheboro says city personnel will be performing sanitary sewer system inspection tests in the Dixieland Acres and surrounding area beginning the week of October 23 (weather permitting). Affected areas generally are between E. Dixie Drive, Zoo Parkway from Atlantic Avenue to Pine Grove Drive, and extending northeast to Timber Lane and Mackie Avenue. According to an announcement on Facebook, starting today, April 3, 2023, the Town of Ramseur will be smoke testing all sanitary sewer lines in this area to locate defects in the sewer system. "The "smoke" that you see coming from the vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground or streets is non-toxic, harmless and creates no fire hazard. More than 12.5 million in Funding Approved for Liberty Wastewater Treatment Plant

ASHEBORO N.C. - Late last month Governor Cooper announced millions of dollars in water and sewer infrastructure funding projects for communities across North Carolina including more than 12.5 million for Wastewater Collection System Improvements for the town of Liberty. In a press release on February 24th, 2023, House Democratic Leader Robert Reives announced that $12.5 million had been allocated for wastewater collection system improvements in Liberty, as well as a $400,000 grant for pre-construction planning. Approval is still needed from the Local Government Commission (LGC).
