Sheriff’s Office charges man charged with indecent liberties

Hugo Ruiz Mendez ASHEBORO — Following a tip and investigation the Randolph County Sheriff's Office charged a suspect with a sex offense involving a minor. According to a press release, on February 8th, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a possible sex offense involving a minor. Following an investigation of the allegations, Criminal Investigation Detectives sought charges against Hugo Ruiz Mendez for felony indecent liberties with a child. On April 23, 2024, Mendez was located, arrested, and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $15,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for April 24, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.

Fort Liberty Solider Arrested for Sex Crimes with Minor at Asheboro Park

ASHEBORO N.C. — A U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Liberty in North Carolina was arrested overnight at a local park in Asheboro, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Late on Wednesday March 20th, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a local park past curfew. According to a press release from the Department, officers found a male, later identified as 27-year-old Eric Timothy Fitch with a 13-year-old juvenile female in the vehicle along with evidence that Fitch had engaged in sexual activity with the female. Suspect Wanted in Colorado Sex Crime Case Located and Arrested in Asheboro

ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect wanted in a sex crime case in Colorado was located and arrested in Asheboro last week. On August 24th, 2023, a detective with the Boulder Police Department in Boulder, Colorado, contacted the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) about locating Nehemias Lopez, who was wanted on a Felony Sexual Assault-Physically Helpless charge. Boulder Police Department had been actively looking for Lopez for several months and believed that Lopez had fled from Colorado to Asheboro, NC. Suspect in Sex Crime Case Arrested in N.Y.

ASHEBORO N.C. - A man wanted as a suspect in a sex crime case in Randolph County was arrested in N.Y. state last month. On February 6th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of sexual acts upon minors. An investigation led to Detectives obtaining charges against Sherwin McDonald Edwards for six counts of felony indecent liberties with a child and two counts statutory sex offense with a child under 15 years of age. Fort Bragg Soldier Arrested for Sex Crime in Liberty

LIBERTY N.C. - A Fort Bragg soldier is in the Randolph County Jail tonight after police say he traveled to Liberty after soliciting sex with a child. In April of 2023, Liberty Police began an investigation regarding a sex crime involving a child. That investigation revealed that a Fort Brag solider had agreed to pay a family member for sex with a handicapped child. On May 6th, 2023, the soldier, identified by police as Schuyler Grant Naves, was arrested when he arrived in Liberty. Asheboro Man Arrested for Sex Crime

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is in jail after being charged with rape by the Sheriff's Office. On December 14, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual crime. In a press release the Sheriff's Office says, "following a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher James Hazelwood of Asheboro, for felony 2nd degree forcible rape." The Sheriff's Offices' Criminal Apprehension Team located Hazelwood, on March 29th, 2023, during the execution of a search warrant. Hazelwood was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $150,000 secured bond. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Grand Jury has indicted a local man for multiple felonies involving sexual crimes with a minor. On December 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding allegations of sexual offenses involving minors. Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher Lee Clark for two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, two counts felony disseminate obscenity, six counts felony first degree statutory sex offense, and misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 years of age.
