The first incident occurred on Thursday, October 19th, 2023, at approximately 7:59 p.m., when deputies responded to a reported armed robbery at the Mountain View Mart on Caraway Mountain Road in Sophia. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the suspect, driving a black pickup truck, had fled the scene and was last seen on Green Farm Road. 2-Year-Old Injured in Accidental Shooting Friday Evening

SOPHIA N.C. - A 2-year-old was injured Friday evening after getting ahold of a firearm and accidently shooting themself in the leg, says the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On Friday October 13th, 2023, just after 6 p.m., deputies responded to a home in Sophia for an accidental gunshot wound. The Sheriff's Office says that a 2-year-old child "grabbed their father’s pistol and accidentally pulled the trigger while the whole family was in their vehicle on their farm/land." The condition of the child is unknown at this time other than that they suffered a superficial wound to their leg. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident and no further information is available currently.
