Photo by Scott Pelkey / Acme News Archive ASHEBORO NC - A wanted suspect was arrested following a vehicle chase than ended in a crash on Hwy 62 over the weekend. According to information from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 2, 2021, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle on Hwy 311 near Shean Dr in Archdale. Police say the driver immediately sped off starting a vehicle pursuit. The chase left 311 on to Tom Hill Rd then on to Trinity Rd. and NC HWY 62. That's when police say the driver lost control of the vehicle near the 5200 block of NC HWY 62 leaving the roadway and colliding with trees. According to a press release on September 12th, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Davis Country Rd., after getting a call that a suspect was actively stealing a forklift. Deputies arrived in the area and say they located the forklift traveling on Branson Davis Rd. toward Hwy 311 and were able to pull the driver over at the intersection of Branson Davis Rd. and Knoll Dr. Police identified the suspect as Robert Wayne Baxter who was placed under arrest and transported to the Randolph County Jail.
