ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect in a stolen vehicle who led police on a brief chase last weekend found out making it to the front porch is not home base and was arrested. On June 18th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to High Pine Church Rd, in Asheboro, for a report of a stolen vehicle. A 911 caller was the victim and was following the stolen vehicle, providing police with a direction of travel. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, a deputy was able to intercept the vehicle as it ran a stop sign on High Pine Church Rd and continued onto Hopewell Friends Rd at a high rate of speed. ASHEBORO N.C. - Earlier today we reported on data from the Sheriff's Office showing in March of this year the agency investigated eight vehicle thefts, making up almost half of the reported vehicle thefts so far this year. As a follow up to that article (which you can read here), we are detailing just a few of the cases we are aware of from March. In early February detectives with the Criminal Interdiction Team were investigating two reports of stolen vehicles on Oakland Ave, in Asheboro. According to the Sheriff's Office, detectives discovered that the vehicles sold by Harley Marie Roark Davis and Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher for scrap metal. ASHEBORO N.C. - Last month the Randolph County Sheriff's Office investigated eight vehicle thefts, which makes up almost half of the vehicle thefts reported in 2023 and data is already showing a spike in theft related calls this month. The crime dashboard maintained on the Sheriff's Office website shows that so far this year 18 motor vehicle thefts have been or are being investigated, eight of those occurred in March. To avoid being the victim of a vehicle theft the Sheriff's Office recommends the following advice: Lock your doors every time you leave your vehicle and take your keys. According to police reports from the Asheboro Police Department police responded to three separate calls for service between Nov 11th and Nov 14th, 2022, for vehicle thefts/break-ins. On November 11th, 2022, an officer responded to Chapel Gate Ln for an attempted larceny of a motor vehicle. The officer spoke with the vehicle owner who stated that a male subject got into her vehicle while it was parked under the carport and attempted to drive it away. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman is facing additional charges after she pepper sprayed an officer while being arrested on an outstanding warrant. On April 14, 2022, Asheboro Police Department arrested Kristi Jo Moss Hodge on multiple outstanding warrants and orders for arrest. Officers located evidence during the arrest that linked Hodge to an April 12th vehicle theft in Ramseur that the Randolph County Sheriff's Office was investigating. According to an official with the Asheboro Police Department, shortly after Hodge was placed into handcuffs she was able to slip her hand out of one of the cuffs and retrieve a pepper spray container from her bra area.
