Manhunt For Armed Suspect

ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) – Deputies with the Davidson and Randolph County Sheriff’s offices and Troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol are asking for help locating an armed suspect who fled on foot at the end of a high-speed chase.

According to information released by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, when at around 4:50 PM, deputies were called to an assault on Cabin Creek Rd. near Denton.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office says that Diehl should be considered armed and dangerous as he was armed with a pistol at the time of the assault. They are asking that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Diehl to call 9-1-1 immediately.

UPDATE – 1/21/21 – 4:45 PM

The subject was seen by a resident running from a barn on Moore Rd. this morning around 8 am and called 911.  Deputies in the area arrived and spotted the subject at approximately 8:06 am and a foot chase began; losing sight of him in a wooded area.  Davidson and Randolph County Sheriff’s Offices, Randolph County Emergency Management, NC Hwy Patrol, Randolph County K9s and K9s from additional agencies searched the area.  At approximately 2:50 pm, a subject matching the description broke into a home on Jackson Creek Rd., attempted to lock a victim in a bedroom and stole a vehicle at gunpoint.  A vehicle chase ensued again heading back into Davidson County and the area of the initial incident Wednesday on Cabin Creek Rd., where the subject wrecked and fled again on foot.

UPDATE – 2/4/21 – 12:00 PM

After a 2 week manhunt, Dustin Ray Diehl was captured this morning. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sherriff’s office on February 4th, 2021, at around 6:45 a.m., the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Team, Deputies from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, and agents from the US Marshall’s Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Dustin Ray Diehl at a residence on Cabin Creek Road, Denton in Davidson County.


Diehl was charged with multiple felony warrants and transported to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office for questioning by Randolph and Davidson County Detectives.
