ASHEBORO N.C. – A man was arrested last Wednesday after police say he stole a car and wallet, then used the victim’s ID to identify himself.
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on June 16, 2021, deputies responded to the 8100 block of US-64 W. in Trinity, NC, after receiving a call about a stolen car. The victim said the vehicle was stolen on June 11, 2021, between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm and that a wallet containing their ID and a spare key to the vehicle was also taken.
While investigating deputies were told that the High Point Police Department had located the stolen vehicle in their jurisdiction along with the suspect, Jason Edward Brown. Police say that Brown attempted to use the victim’s identification when trying to identify himself to them. Brown was arrested and
Randolph County deputies obtained warrants against him for:
- Felony Larceny of Motor Vehicle
- Felony Break and/or Enter Motor Vehicle,
- Two counts of Misdemeanor Larceny.
An officer with High Point Police Department served those warrants and additional outstanding Warrants out of Randolph County for:
- Felony Assault By Strangulation
- Three counts of Felony Second Degree Kidnapping
- Misdemeanor Assault on a Female,
- Misdemeanor Assault Inflicting Serious Injury with Minor Present
- Misdemeanor Interfere with Emergency Communications.
Brown was given a $500,000 secured bond and scheduled a court date for August 2, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.
High Point Police Department also charged Brown with:
- Felony Identity Theft
- Misdemeanor Resisting Public Officer
- Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods/Property.
He was given a $2,000 secured bond on those charges and has a court date in Guilford County on July 30, 2021.
